CAT DI Combination Graph M05

Data can be presented in 4 forms: numerical, table, mixed, and graphical. Key points in data interpretation include familiarity with different data presentation techniques like tables, charts, and graphs. Percentages and ratios are important calculation techniques. Approximation should be within ±2% and the direction of approximation should be known. Techniques specific to different graphs and charts help reduce calculation time. The document provides examples of data interpretation questions on tables, bar graphs and pie charts along with their solutions. It aims to help students understand different data presentation formats and develop skills for solving data interpretation questions.

DATA INTREPRETATION-BASICS

CAT 2016
Data Interpretation:

Data can be written or represented in 4 Forms

1. Numerical :- Data in numerical form
2. Table Form :- Data in Tabular form
3. Mixed form :- Data in Mix Form
4. Graphical form Like Line ,Bar graph etc.

Key Points:

1.Generating familiarity with different sets of data presentation techniques: Data can be presented
either through words as in case-lets or through pictorial methods. Out of all the types of pictorial charts,
table, bar chart, pie chart and line chart are most frequently used types in CAT. Though, there are times
when CAT has asked questions from Scatter diagram and Radar diagrams too. An aspirant should be
aware of these too.
2. Percentage and Ratio applications: These two chapters from Quantitative Aptitude has a certain role
to be played in DI calculation. There are three different methods of ratio comparison as given below:
3. Approximation techniques
Thumb rules for approximation:
Before a candidates starts calculating the final answer, he should look at the options. It should not be too
close as in that case approximation might lead us to choose the wrong option as the answer. A minimum
gap of at least 5% is desirable among options.
An approximation is good if it is in the range of 2%.
At the end of approximation, one should know the direction of approximation. It means that one should
know that approximated value is more than or less than the actual value.

of Pie Chart, Line Chart and Bar chart that one should know to reduce the calculation time.
