Design Check for the CHECKERED PLATE :

Calculation of Applied Maximum Bending Moment

Consider a 1m wide strip of the Plate.
Design Thickness of the Checkered Plate = 3mm
Dead Weight of the Checkered Plate (Gk) = 0.25 kN/m2
Live Load on the Floor (Qk) = 2.5 kN/m2
Design Load (w)= 1.4Gk + 1.6Qk = 4.35 kN/m2
Maximum Span in-between supports (l)= 0.6 m
Applied Maximum Bending Moment (M) = wl2/8
=0.2 kNm
Calculation of Allowable Maximum Bending Moment
Allowable Stress () = 215 N/mm2
Width of the section (b)= 1000 mm
Depth of the section (d)= 3 mm
Elastic Section Modulus (z)= 1000x(3)2/6
= 1500 mm3
Moment Capacity of the section =z
= 215x1500 Nmm
=0.32 kNm > 0.2 kNm
Therefore,
Moment Capacity of the section > Applied Maximum Bending Moment on the Checkered Plate

Hence 3mm Thick Checkered Plate is O.K. for the Floor of the Platform.

Design Check for the Platform Supporting Bar (6mmx100mm Flat Bar)
Calculation of Maximum Moment on the Flat Bar when acting as a Cantilever Beam.
Maximum Simply Supported Span of the Flat Bar (l) = 0.4 m
Design Floor Load (w) = 4.35 kN/m2
Maximum Moment (M)= wl2/2
= 0.35 kNm

Calculation of Maximum Moment on the Flat Bar when acting as a Simply Supported Beam.
Maximum Simply Supported Span of the Flat Bar (l) = 0.6 m
Design Floor Load (w) = 4.35 kN/m2
Maximum Moment (M)= wl2/8
= 0.2 kNm
Therefore the largest Bending Moment is when Flat Bar is acting as a Cantilever Beam.
Calculation of Allowable Maximum Bending Moment for the Flat Bar
Allowable Stress () = 215 N/mm2
Width of the section (b)= 6 mm
Depth of the section (d)= 100 mm
Elastic Section Modulus (z)= 6x(100)2/6
= 10000 mm3
Moment Capacity of the section =z
= 215x10000 Nmm
=2.15 kNm > 0.35 kNm
Therefore,
Moment Capacity of the Flat Bar > Applied Maximum Bending Moment on the Flat Bar

Hence, 6mm x 100mm Flat Bar is O.K. to Support the Platform.
