DAAD Young Ambassador Meet: Group Speed Networking Session

What is "Speed Networking"?
Speed Networking is an efficient, face-to-face professional networking model similar to
speed dating, that enables participants to make new contacts through dedicated and
focused conversations lasting between 2-5 minutes.

How will our speed networking session work?

Its organized chaos loud, energizing, and fun!
In our case six groups of two or three DAAD Young Ambassadors, will network with each of
the participating German institutions/ organizations individually. Every interaction will last six
minutes after which a bell will prompt the participants to start the next round of interactions.
Once the speed part is over, theres time later for people to reconnect with those they
wanted to talk to in more detail.

How to make your speed networking experience a success:

Bring 20 or more business cards. Sounds basic but you wouldnt believe the number
of people who run out of cards before the session is over, or didnt think to bring them
along.
Refine your message and limit yourself to 1 minute or so.
Pick a couple of key things and find an engaging way to describe them.
Have your elevator pitch ready and say succinctly what you would like to achieve or
learn.

The Elevator Pitch

In lieu of a list of regimented questions to be presented in rigid procession plan your own
networking story.
Quick personal introduction
Where are you from? i.e. name your institution/ organization
What do you enjoy about your work and what do you think would be the most
interesting and helpful thing for your listener to know about your professional
experiences?
What are you hoping to know from the person you are talking to?
Ask - What would you like to know that I have not shared?
