The Sadness

Only knowing one language can be sad, as it limits understanding of other cultures. Nicole O'Donnell argues that American students rarely want to learn new languages, despite the importance of bilingualism in today's globalized world. She believes learning a second language is best started from a young age, when the mind can most easily absorb a new language. Both Nicole and the author believe requiring a second language in schools across the U.S. could greatly improve education by opening students up to new traditions and ways of thinking.

The Sadness of Knowing only one

Language
Only knowing one language can be a very sad thing. Some
people dont realize just how important it is to be able to
dominate two or more languages now a day. According to
Nicole ODonnell American students rarely have that initiative
to learn something new, especially a language. She believes
this opens many doors and is an important part of getting to
know new cultures, traditions and more.
When it comes to learning a new language, Nicole believes its
best to begin from the start. While we are very young. This is
a great way to get to know a language because when our
minds and bodies are still that young, we are able to absorb it
very quickly leading to a full comprehension in that area.
I believe, as well as Nicole, that implementing a second
language in schools all over the United States can be essential
and can improve the education Americans have in many ways.
