Measuring tools consist of a wide

array of cups, spoons, timers, scales

& thermometers that are specially
designed for use in the kitchen.
Kitchen Timer
By function timers can be categorized to two main
types. A timer which counts upwards from zero for
measuring elapsed time is often called a stopwatch; a
device which counts down from a specified time
interval is more usually called a timer or a
countdown timer.

Kitchen Measuring Spoon

A measuring spoon is a spoon used to measure an
amount of an ingredient, either liquid or dry,
when cooking. Measuring spoons may be made of
plastic, metal, and other materials. They are available
in many sizes, including teaspoon and tablespoon.

Kitchen Measuring Cup

A measuring cup or measuring jug is a kitchen utensil
used primarily to measure the volume of liquid or bulk

solid cooking ingredients such as flour and sugar,

especially for volumes from about 50 mL (2 fl oz)
upwards. The cup will usually have a scale marked in
cups and fractions of a cup, and often with fluid
measure and weight of a selection of dry foodstuffs.
Measuring cups are also used to measure washing
powder, liquid detergents or bleach, with a measuring
cup not also used for food.
Measuring cups may be made of plastic, glass or
metal Transparent (or translucent) cups can be read
from an external scale; metal ones only from a scale
marked on the inside. Smaller measuring spoons lack
a scale and are filled and leveled to maximum
capacity.

Kitchen Measuring Beaker

By using a measuring beaker we can measure the
exact amount of ingredients we need to use.

Kitchen Scale
A kitchen scales can be convenient especially for
baking recipes, because it measures ingredients more
accurately than measuring by volume.

Choose a scale whether manual or digital, capable of

weighing up to 10 pounds (5 kg) in increments no
larger than ounce (7g) and that also provides
corresponding metric measurements. The weighing
bowl of a manual scale should be large enough to
handle at least 2 cups (10 oz or 315 g) of flour or an
equivalent item.
Digital scales should allow you to weigh ingredients in
any bowl or container.

Oven Thermometer
A utensil used to check the temperature of the oven
so the reading can be compared to the temperature
set on the oven dial.
With the use of an Oven Thermometer, temperatures
can be checked to insure it remains consistent
throughout the baking or roasting time. Oven
Thermometers are made for both grills and kitchen
ovens, each designed for the purpose of measuring
temperatures within each type of oven.
At times, the Grilling Thermometer may also be used
as a Surface Thermometer to measure temperatures
on the surface of pans as well as grills. Typically, each

gauge will be manufactured so they can either be

hung from oven racks or clipped (or placed) onto grill
grates in order to be positioned so temperatures are
accurately measured

Candy Thermometer
A candy thermometer, also known as a sugar
thermometer, is a cooking thermometer used to
measure the temperature and therefore the stage of a
cooking sugar solution. These thermometers can also
be used to measure hot oil for deep frying.
There are several kinds of candy thermometers
available. These include traditional liquid
thermometers, coil spring "dial" thermometers and
digital thermometers.
The digital thermometers tend to read the
temperature more quickly and accurately, and some
models have an alarm when the thermometer hits a
certain temperature. Many models have markers for
the various stages of sugar cooking.
A candy thermometer is similar to a meat
thermometer except that it can read higher
temperatures (usually 400 F which is 200 C or

more). An Oven Thermometer will most often be for

kitchen oven use while a thermometer for the grill will
be referred to as a Grill or Grilling Thermometer

Meat Thermometer
A meat thermometer or cooking thermometer is
a thermometer used to measure the internal
temperature of meat, especially roasts and steaks,
and other cooked foods. The degree of "doneness" of
meat or bread correlates closely with the internal
temperature, so that a thermometer reading indicates
when it is cooked as desired. When cooking, food
should always be cooked so that the interior reaches a
temperature sufficient, that in the case of meat is
enough to kill pathogens that may cause foodbome
illness or, in the case of bread, that is done baking the
thermometer helps to ensure this.

Liquid Measuring Cup

Resembling pitchers with calibrated measurements of
fluid ounces and cups printed vertically on their sides,
the best liquid measuring cups are made of heatproof
tempered glass. They have pour sprouts in their rims
opposite a comfortable handle and are available in a

variety of sizes to suit your needs. A cup with a 2-cup

(16fl oz/500 ml) capacity is the most versatile

Dry Measuring Cups

Dry measuring cups come in sets of graduated
volumes, typically ranging from cup (2 fl oz or 60
ml) to 1 cup (8 fl oz or 250 ml). They are usually made
of stainless steel, heavy duty plastic or polycarbonate
with a straight rim that enables you to level the
ingredient being measured for an accurate quantity.
