Tech110 Procedures

This document outlines 17 classroom procedures for students to follow, including how to enter and exit the classroom in an orderly manner, what to do during group lessons, seatwork, and free time, how to handle homework, bathroom breaks, pencil sharpening, tissues, fire drills, and ending the day. Key expectations are that students move about the classroom quietly, raise their hand if they need help, only have necessary materials out during lessons, and line up and transition between activities in a calm and orderly fashion so as not to disrupt other classes.

Classroom

Procedures
1. Entering the room: Enter quietly and politely; store belongings quickly; take your seat and be
ready to learn!
2. Pledge/Prayer: At this time, everyone will rise, placing their right hands over their hearts and
recite the Pledge respectfully and as a whole class. Morning prayer and 30 seconds of reflection
will follow, reflection should be silent.
3. Lining up: When lining up, students will be dismissed to the line by either row or table and will be
called in order of which group is most prepared to be dismissed. Chairs should be pushed in, all
necessary items taken, and students should stand in line without disrupting classmates, i.e.
horseplay or loud talking. When leaving the room in a line, students are expected to walk quietly,
so as not to disturb other classes and in a straight, orderly line.
4. Signal for Attention: When I need the classs attention, I will raise my hand and say, ok, guys.
When you hear this, I expect you to stop what you are doing, stop talking, and pay attention,
because this means I am about to give instructions.
5. Group lessons: During whole class instruction, students should only have the necessary
supplies and materials on their desk. Whole class instruction is a time for listening and learning
new information. If a student has a question, they may raise their hand; there should be no
talking among students during this time.
6. Seatwork: Write your name and the date on the upper right hand corner of the page
7. Help with assignments: If you are working within a group, ask your group mates for clarification,
if you are working independently, raise your hand and I will help.
8. Free time: If you finish an assignment quickly, please remember that other students are still
working and this time must remain quiet until everyone is finished or until time is up. You may
take out a book and read, draw, or work on any unfinished assignments or homework you may
have. Please be prepared to show me the work you have completed as I come by, because I
may ask you to revise, edit or correct any mistakes before you use free time.
9. Assigned homework: If I give you a handout, please put it in the front pocket of your class
binder immediately, so that it isnt lost.
10. Homework: When handing in homework, please place it in the tray and make sure your name is
on it! If you didnt finish your homework, fill out the homework form and tell me why, I will talk to

you about it before the end of the day and make a plan for it to be completed. Any unfinished
homework or projects should be kept in your class binder.
11. Lunch procedures: 5-10 minutes before lunch dismissal, I will ask you to clear your desks and
gather your belongings. At lunch time, we will line up with hot lunch students first and sack lunch
students second.
12. Using the restroom: You may ask to use the restroom as needed, after obtaining permission
simply take the hall pass and quietly and quickly go. Please re-enter the classroom quietly and
return to your work. I will not allow restroom breaks during whole class instruction unless there is
a medical reason.
13. Using the drinking fountain: You may bring a bottle of water with you to class, I would prefer a
reusable travel type mug however a plastic bottle is fine. IF you are being disruptive with the
water bottle, i.e. crunching it and being noisy, squirting classmates, I will put it away until the end
of the day. If this happens and you need a drink in the meantime, you may ask to use the
drinking fountain and will follow the same procedures you would if you were taking a bathroom
break. Water breaks are not permitted during whole class instruction.
14. Pencil Sharpening: Pencils should be sharpened prior to the start of class, if your pencil breaks
or needs sharpening during a lesson, you may quietly and without disrupting others, replace your
pencil with one from the pencil jar.
15. Tissues: If you need a tissue, quietly and without disrupting others (this includes noisy and/or
melodramatic nose blowing) help yourself to a tissue. When you are done with it, make sure you
put it in the trash and use the hand sanitizer. If you are worried about being disruptive, simply ask
to use the restroom.
16. Fire Drills: If you hear the fire alarm sound, you should stop what you are doing and listen for
me to call your row or table number, so that we can promptly line up in an orderly fashion. The
first person in line will hold the door for everyone and join us in line when all students have exited
the room. We will walk quietly and quickly to our designated spot and will remain quiet and
orderly until we are excused back to our room.

17. Ending the day: 5-10 minutes before dismissal, I will ask you to tidy your seats. Throw away
any loose papers or trash, double check that you have written down your homework assignments
and that any handouts are in your binder. Wait quietly for dismissal.
