iFilter™

Overview
Developed specifically for synthesis of lumped-element and distributed filters,
iFilter brings useful filter synthesis to the integrated desktop. The module plugs
directly into the Microwave Office® design environment and is integrated as a
wizard within the AWR Design Environment™ (AWRDE).

iFilter’s intuitive interface will quickly have you designing filters, connecting
them directly to circuitry and making trade-offs that positively impact your
design. Once you are satisfied with the performance and design of your
filter(s), you’re ready to implement them in Microwave Office software via
automatic generation of schematics, graphs, and even tuning parameters and
optimization goals. Physical layout is automatically generated for distributed
designs, and design and optimization for lumped designs can be readily done Filter Synthesis
with user-defined parts libraries. for RF/Microwave
iFilter’s physical layouts are automatically generated for distributed filters, Design
while lumped-element filters can be realized using an extensive library of
manufacturers’ components (inductors, capacitors, etc). Designers can view
representations of the filter before it is exported to Microwave Office software.
Switching from an annotated schematic view to a physical view or netlists
with parametric information provides insight into the filter’s impedances and
resonances. iFilter software also provides feedback on higher-order modes
and line widths for common characteristic impedances, and warns the user
if the desired characteristics of the filter are beyond the capabilities of a
specific topology. Additionally, iFilter performs accurate synthesis through
electromagnetic verification with for instance, AWR’s AXIEM™ 3D planar EM
simulator. This is especially important when designing distributed filters.

Features at a glance
Simplicity – filter synthesis for the rest of us!
Power – ideal or real, lumped or distributed, wide variety
 Ease-of-use – continues AWR’s signature tradition
 Integrated – works directly
with AWR layout, EM, and
optimization
 Upgradeable – options for
your design needs

iFilter is completely integrated

into AWRDE and easily
accessible.
