Troubleshooting Guidelines
***All testing needs to be completed while the machine is warm.
Ensure configuration settings are correct
Ensure ECM is receiving inputs from engine coolant temperature sensor,
hydraulic oil temperature sensor, and ambient air temperature sensor.
Test for wiring continuity between the wiring harness on the visconic fan
with the machine ECM (five wires).
Ensure Pin 5 is receiving a constant 5 Volts.
Verify fan speed can be manually overridden through the service menu.
Complete viscous fan testing for coil function and speed sensor.
Unplug fan assembly and ensure fan speed defaults to high speed
Measure actual fan speed with a phototach; compare results with desired
fan speed from and actual fan speed as reported by the Machine ECM.
Verify correct belt and pulley number as per SISweb.
Measure actual fan pulley speed with a phototach with respect to engine
RPM; compare results with included information.
Reference the following pages for more information on the above topics.
Configuration Settings
From the factory the 320D-329D machines installed with the viscous clutch for
LACD are only and should ONLY be configured to High Ambient.
NOTE: This is a general wiring diagram for the viscous fan clutch. Reference the machine specific
electrical schematic for appropriate wiring colors and labels.
NOTE: The first 150 seconds are controlled by changing the Fan Motor Current
Percentage parameter. The last 150 seconds are controlled by changing the Fan
Motor Speed parameter.
Parameter Notes
Although the Fan Motor Current
Percentage or Coolant Fan Solenoid
Current Percentage can be adjusted in the
override menu, the parameter has no value
during normal operation. The value will
default to zero and should be ignored.
