Book Conventions
This book is designed for ease of use. During every module, you will be guided
through lessons step by step. Instructions for you to follow will look like this:
press [command]
This book is meant for use by both Macintosh and PC users. The software is nearly
the same for both, but the keyboard commands may be different.
The term [command] is used in this book as a neutral term for [ctrl] (PC) and
[apple] (Mac). The term [return] is used in this book as a neutral term for [enter]
(PC) and [return] (Mac).
Confidence Checks
You will also come across the little guy at the right. He indicates a Confidence Check.
Throughout each module you will be guided through hands-on exercises. But at
some point youll have to fend for yourself. That is where Confidence Checks come
in. Theyre very important. You must be sure to complete each of them because
some exercises build on completed Confidence Checks.

QuarkXPress Basics
The History of QuarkXPress
QuarkXPress is a print publishing application produced by Quark, Inc. Quark, the
company, gets its name from the subatomic particle that is the building block for all
matter. QuarkXPress, the program, made its debut in 1987 as a direct competitor to
Adobes PageMaker (the dominant desktop publishing application of the day).
Before the advent of QuarkXPress, type had to be set on expensive typesetting
machines. With QuarkXPress came the ability to set professional-looking typography
and layouts on the desktop computer. According to Quark, there are more than three
million QuarkXPress users worldwide.

A few of the many palettes available in QuarkXPress. You will be working with
these palettes throughout the lessons in this book.
open flyer1
Your open project should look similar to the picture below.
Views
Generally speaking, the closer you are to a QuarkXPress layout, the more accurate
what you see on the screen will be. The further away you are from the layout, the
faster youll be able to scroll, the more of the layout that youll be able to see, but the
less accurate things really are. There are many ways to zoom closer and farther away
from your layout including menu commands, keyboard shortcuts and fields where
you can type a specific view percentage.
double-click the number you see in the View Percent Field (the View
Percent Field is located in the lower, left of your window where you should
see the number 50%)
Greeking
Depending on your monitors screen resolution, and your view percentage, you may
or may not be able to make out actual letters on the page. If you cannot make out
the letters, there isnt anything wrong with your vision. It is assumed that at this
reduced view, you are not interested in reading the text in your project. This
assumption is called greeking. Good assumption or not, it is not recommended that
you attempt to read and/or edit text at reduced views such as Fit in Window. As far
as Im concerned, there are two types of print publishers, those who have glasses
and those who will. Working with text while in a reduced view will hasten your
journey into the have glasses club.
click OK
2. View the greeked text.
The QuarkXPress Environment > Multiple Projects > View Multiple Projects Windows
Multiple Projects
You can open as many projects as you can stand. While thats nice, you can only
work in one project at a time, so its a good idea to keep the number of projects open
to a reasonable level. If you do open multiple projects, you can easily switch between
them (the Window menu offers one method). In addition to switching between open
projects, you can split the QuarkXPress application window into panels so you can
view them all at one time.
choose Window > flyer1 and then choose File > Close
if prompted, do not save the flyer1 project

New Projects
When creating new QuarkXPress projects, you need to make a host of decisions
regarding the look of your layout. Prior to making those decisions in the New Project
dialog box, its a good idea to meet with your designer so that you understand such
things about the layout as size, margins, number of columns and more. While you
can modify the look and feel of your layout at any time down the road, it is easier if
you know the projects specifications and requirements before creating the new
project.
Application Preferences
There are two occasions when you can set preferences in QuarkXPress: with a
project open or with QuarkXPress running but no projects open. The difference? If
you change many of the projects preferences while in a file, the settings you
establish affect only that project. If you change preferences with all projects closed,
as is the case now, the change affects all future projects.
click OK
Since you set this preference with no projects open, it doesnt appear that you
have done anything. But you have just ensured that new projects you create
will use inches as the measurements systems. Existing projects will not be
affected.
Speaking of inches, whats the preferred unit of measurement among printers
and desktop publishers? Answer: points and picas. Why? Because points and
picas allow for a more precise layout. But since many new print publishers are
not yet comfortable working with points or picas, the lessons in this book will
only use the inch measurement system.
Next you will specify the page Margins Guides. Margins Guides will appear as
non-printing blue lines on your layout. They will serve as the buffer between
the trim (the extreme edges of the layout) and the working area remaining
within the page area.
2. Change the page margins.
10
The QuarkXPress Environment > New Projects > Create a New Project
3. Select and deselect the check boxes.
if necessary, remove the check marks from both Facing Pages and
Automatic Text Box
click OK
5. Change the layouts view to Fit in Window (you learned how to change views
on page 5).
In the next activity you will change the layouts orientation and margins.
11

Your layout should now be flipped on its side.
2. Change the layouts view to Fit in Window.
3. Change the layouts Margin Guides.
change the Top Margin Guide to 2 and then click the Link symbol
right of the Top Margin Guide field
to the

release [alt]
3. Change your view back to Fit in Window.
4. Show several palettes.
Your screen should have several palettes open, which also means your screen
is very cluttered. While you can certainly view multiple palettes at the same
time, its not very practical unless your monitor is very large or you are using
multiple monitors.
13
Palette Sets
You have already learned that many palettes are available in QuarkXPress. The
palettes can be opened, closed, resized and positioned to suit your needs. You can
save the sizes and positions of palettes on your screen as a custom palette set. After
you save the palette set, you can access it at any time via the Palette sets submenu
(Window menu).
close all of the palettes on your screen except for Tools and Style Sheets
move the palettes until your screen is similar to the picture below
click Save
14
Confidence Check
1. Close all of the palettes.
2. Change the Orientation of your layout to Portrait.
If you need help, refer to page 12.
3. Change all of the Master Guides to one-half inch.
If you need help, refer to page 12.
4. Ensure you are displaying the Layout (not the Master Page).
5. Change your view to Fit in Window.
6. Show the Tools palette. (Window > Show Tools or press [F8] on your
keyboard.)
Your project should consist of your page (which should be Tall with one-half
inch margins) and the Tools palette.
15
move your mouse pointer over any tool on the Tools palette
When you point to (hover above) a tool, a message appears next to
the tool telling you the name of the toola Tool Tip.
4. Draw a text box.
with the Text Content Tool selected, click inside the text box you drew
You should be see a blinking insertion point in the text box you drew (you
cant type text into a text box unless the Content tool and text box are
selected).
The QuarkXPress Environment > Text and Picture Content > Draw and Use a Picture Box
using the Picture Content Tool, draw square thats approximately 3 inches
wide and 3 inches tall
Unlike Text Content boxes, notice that a Picture Content Box contains an X.
with the Picture Content Box you just drew selected, choose File > Import
The Import dialog box appears.
17
drag the image any direction you like to change what appears within the
picture box (in the picture below, the image has been cropped so all three
of the children appear within the box)
click just above, or below, the picture box containing the image of the kids
to deselect the item
With the item deselected, you can now see only the part of the image that
will print.
6. Save the project.
18
The QuarkXPress Environment > Text and Picture Content > Resize and Move Layout Items
drag the right, center resizing handle right to make the box a bit wider

Confidence Check
1. Draw a few lines on the page using the Line Tool.
2. Draw a few rectangles using the Rectangle Box Tool.
20
The QuarkXPress Environment > Customize a Tool > Customize the Zoom Tool
Customize a Tool
The easiest way to customize a tool on the toolbar is by double-clicking the tool. If
you
double-click an editable tool, such as the Zoom tool, youll get a dialog box. Some of
the tools cant be modified. If you double-click a tool that cant be modified, you
hear an alert beep.
from the bottom of the Tools palette, select the Zoom tool
click on your layout a few times
Each click should move you closer to the page by 25%.
3. Customize the view scale increment.
21
22
The QuarkXPress Environment > The Zero Point > Change the Zero Point
23
With this option selected, QuarkXPress would print your layout using as many
sheets of paper as necessary, regardless of the zero point. The larger the
Overlap value, the more paper it will take to print the layout.
With this option selected, QuarkXPress will print just one sheet of paper based
entirely on the position of your zero point, from the zero point down. Notice
the preview in the upper right of the dialog box. The preview is an excellent
indication of which part of the page would print.
