Transilvania University of Bra ov
It is not the walls that make a school, but the spirit that reigns within.
(King Ferdinand I)
(Paolo Blasi)
On 19 April the university's Multicultural Centre was the locale of a recital by young
pianist Botond Szcs, second year student at the Faculty of Music. Coached by Dr Stela Drgulin
since 2011, Botond has gradually made a name for himself by winning many national and
international contests in Braov, Trgu-Mure, Rmnicu-Vlcea, Bucharest, London, etc. - as
either soloist or with symphonic orchestras. This recital included pieces such as Schumann's
Humoresca, The Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt and Chopin's Preludes.
His virtuoso performance, the accuracy of details, the finesse in capturing the spirit of
the original works, and the artful combination of different musical styles testified to an
increasingly developing talent build on a sound academic foundation.
Witnessing his performance was tantamount to witnessing the rise of a star: years later,
we, students at the Faculty of Music, will be able to say Botond Szcs was our colleague!.

FORESTRY STUDENTS
WON TWO PRIZES
On the 6 April, the Multicultural Centre of our university played host to the first concert in the
series entitled The integral of Beethoven's sonatas for violin and piano. The event is part of a project
initiated by two exceptional artists, Peter Rosenberg, concertmaster in the symphonic orchestra of
Bamberg, and Botond Szcs, pianist and 2nd year student at the Faculty of Music, the class of Dr Stela
Drgulin.
The recital was infused with the intensity of artistic emotions and interpretative virtuosity. To
the finest note, the artists rendered three of Beethoven's sonatas: the Sonata for Piano and Violin
No.1, the Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 5 (The Spring Sonata), and the Sonata for Piano and Violin
No. 9 (the Kreutzer Sonata).
To make music sound and resound in this particular manner, one needs to put in talent,
dedication and artistry, a fact reconfirmed by pianist Botond Szcs: It's a question of life and death
on stage: you must give your very best.
The concert invited the participation of professional and amateur music buffs, all
interconnected by this wonderful melodic string. From the first to the last note, the audience was
captured by the young artists' performance, whose virtuosity represents a promise for further events
to deliver the same exceptional musical quality.

THE ERASMUS+ KA1 PROJECT AT THE FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGICAL ENGINEERING AND INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT
Between 11 and 16 April, the Faculty of Technological Engineering and Industrial
ADULT EDUCATION
Management played host to the workshop Quality, protypation and good practices for their
MOBILITY
application, part of the Erasmus+ KA1 Adult Education Mobility Project.
The opening speech was given by Dr Simona Lache, Vice-Rector for Internationalization and
quality Evaluation, who presented the quality management system at Transilvania University of
Braov, as well as on the criteria for ARACIS assessment and the international IEP-EUA assessment.
The twelve-month project is supported by the Greek National Agency and mainly addresses
the educational mobility of the ENEPROT members (Union of Hellenic Scientists for Protypation
and Standardization) to our University, with the specific aim of getting specialized training in the
field of higher-education quality and standardization. Other targets include the ongoing training
within the Romanian educational system, the assessment of pros and cons of the educational
systems in both countries in view of effectively integrating educational methods and best practices,
as well as cultural events.
The project represented also an opportunity to identify collaboration prospects for further international educational projects
and partnerships.

The 18th Conference on Mining-Metallury and Geology was held between 7 and 10 April and
was oragnised by the Hungarian Technical-Scientific Society in Transilvania in partnership with the
Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at Transilvania University of Braov. On the first day, the
170 participants were given a tour of Brasov and of its surroundings (Poiana Braov Rnov - Bran Prul Rece - Scele). On the second day the conference was opened by Dr Daniel Munteanu, Vicerector of the university, followed by plenary sessions. The morning program ended in a pleasant
atmosphere created by old music band Codex. In the afternoon, the confenerce continued in four
panels: Geology, Metallurgy-Welding, Mining and History of Sciences. On Saturday, our colleagues
from the University of Miskolc went on a short visit to the C08 Reserach Centre at the ICDT. On
Sunday morning, the participants, teaching staff, researchers, doctoral students, MA students from
Babes-Bolyai University, Petroani, Miskolc, Budapest universities and production engineers (the
Association of Hungarian Miners and Metallurgists) said good bye to Braov and left with pleasant
memories of the city and Transilvania University.

OPEN DOORS
its doors for the event School, Differently. On this occasion, pre-university students of all ages from
TO FACULTY COLLECTIONS Braov, Dmbovia and Sibiu counties, as well as children from local kindergartens visited the
laboratories of the faculty.
The visits were peppered with short lectures held by faculty staff on various aspects related
to teaching and research in the field of forest engineering. The guests had the opportunity to visit the
faculty's museums and collections and to observe various species of forest and ornamental trees in
the faculty's park.
Great interest was shown in problems related to wild game: the management, anatomy and
ethology of wild game species.
Practical aspects related to plant conservation were the focus of discussions during the
whole week dedicated to this event in the faculty's plant collection and botany laboratory. The
children were impressed by the sheer amount and value of the collections as well as by the age-old
specimens (plants that have been collected ever since the 1850s). Technology enthusiasts had a
chance to explore the microscopic dimension of plants and soil by preparing and analyzing laboratory tests under the microscope.

OVER 300 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS VISITED THE FACULTY OF ECONOMIC SCIENCES AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Between 18 and 22 April, during the School, Differently week - To know more, to be better,
over 300 high schoolers from Braov and Prahova counties visited the Faculty of Economic Sciences
and Business Administration. On this occasion, they learnt more about what it means and takes to be a
student at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Business Administration, about the study programs
that our faculty offers at the undergraduate, masters and PhD level, and about its functioning and
equipment.
On behalf of the faculty, the hosts were Dr Gabriel Brtucu, Dean, Dr. Ioana Chiu, and
students, who managed to create the setting for an extremely interesting dialogue.
On the same week, the winners of the Ideas for SMART Applications contest received their
awards. Organized by Dr. Radu Lixndroiu, the contest gathered ideas for developing mobile
applications (for smartphones or tablets). The participants were eleventh and twelfth grade
highschoolers, as well as students from our university.

SCHOOL,
DIFFERENTLY WEEK
telling ambitious young people what PRIME Braov does and what opportunities it offers for
personal and professional growth. This was followed by the actual recruiting, an innovative process,
just like our organization, built around the concept of Board Games.
The future members relaxed while playing various interactive games, some meant to help
them get to know each other, others aimed at testing their PR abilities and knowledge. The first
activity was simple: the participants introduced themselves and then they answered two questions
asked by another participant.
The second game was a personalized board game, created by PRIME Braov especially for the
applicants involved in this recruiting process. The players answered questions from various fields,
such as social media, fundraising, graphic design or human resources.
At the end of the recruiting session, three teams were formed. They received the task of
organizing an event, observing the requirements set by members of PRIME Braov. At the end of the recruiting process, PRIME Braov
took new, resourceful members on board. We are happy with these results, and we are looking forward to pass our values on to our new
colleagues.
