TheunitisthefirstfacilityinAmirKabir'solefincomplextostartup.The520,000t/y
crackerplantisthenextunittostartuplaterin2003.
SituatedinthePetrochemicalSpecialEconomicZone,thefacilityisslatedtoproduce
160,000t/yofpolypropylene(PP),300,000t/yoflinearlowdensitypolyethylene(lldPE),
20,000t/yofbutene1,158,000t/yofpropylene(PP),137,000t/yofpyrolysisgasoline,
51,000t/yofbutadieneand24,000t/yoffueloil.
Theplannedethyleneplantandotherderivativeswillstartupinstages.ThePPplanthas
beensoldtolocalprivatecompanyNavidZarChimie.
Itsrequiredfeedstockincludeethane,butane,LPG,raffinate,C5cut,lightendsandbutene

The1.1mtonne/yearOlefinsNo.7crackeranditsderivativehighdensitypolyethylene
(hdPE)unitareonthevergeofcomingonstream.Allthecompressorandfurnacesat
thecrackercomplexarereadyforoperationandflareswillcomeosntreamwithindays.
Currently,75%ofprecommissioningworkhasbeencompleted.Marun'sethane
recoveryplantisalreadyintrialrunwiththenaturalgasitproducesbeinginjected
intothenationalgasgrid.ThecrackerisexpectedtostartproductioninDecember.The
ethanerecoveryplant,locatednearthecityofAhwaz,theprovincialcapitalof
Khuzestanprovince,produces1.9mtonne/yearofethanewhichwillbepipedtocracker
plantinthePetrochemicalSpecialEconomicZone.Inthemeantime,commissioning
workisgainingmomentumatthefacility's300,000tonne/yearhdPEplant.Theplant's

Theprojectwouldnownotincludeanypolymerproduction,butwoulduseethylene
andpropylenetofeedotherderivativeprojects.
"Thereasonwehavereducedthecapacitiesisthatmarginsforpolymersareonthe
declineandbecausewewouldliketodiversifyourproductslate,"Peyvandisaid.
Thecompanyhasalsodecidedtouseonlycondensatefeedstockforthecrackerrather
thanamixofcondensateandheavyendfeed,hesaid.Thecondensatewouldbe
sourcedfromtheSouthParsgasfieldinsouthernIran,hesaid.
"Thereisbettereconomicsinheavyendoilproducts,sowewouldrathersecure1m
tonnes/yearofheavyendoilproductsfromthecrackerratherthanusetheheavyend

BorzuyehPetrochemicalCo.,asubsidiaryofNPC,hasnowstartedupits4,458,000
tonsayearofaromaticplant.
Themainproductsofthiscomplexareparaxylene,benzeneandorthoxylenewiththe
annualproductionof1,280,000tons.
ThebyproductsofBorzuyehPetrochemicalCo.,withayearlyproductionof3,178,000
tonsincludeC5cut,LPG,LightEnds,HeavyEnds,RaffinateandHeavyAromatics
whichareeitherusedasthefeedforneighboringpetrochemicalplantssuchastheJam
petrochemicalcomplex,orexportedoverseas.
Therequiredfeedstock,consistingof4,500,000tonsayearofcondensatesand270,000

Thecontractcoversprovisionoflicense,basicanddetailedengineering,procurementand
supplyofequipmentandsupervisionservices.
ThecomplexwillbelocatedadjacenttoAmmonia/UreacomplexNo.1.
ItisaduplicationofNo.1complexwiththesamecapacityof2050tonne/dayofammonia
and3250tonne/dayofurea.ItwilluseMWKelloggandStamicarbon'stechnologiesforthe
ammoniaandureaplantsrespectively.TheureagranulationprocessislicensedbyHydro
FertilizerTechnology(HFT).

Theproject'sfeedstockisnaturalgas,whichwillbesuppliedbySouthParsgasfield.
Thecomplexisscheduledtobecompletedin24months.Itwillbeimplementedby
PetrochemicalIndustriesDevelopmentManagementCo(PIDMCO),anNPCsubsidiary.
