Introduction

Scope of supply

Automatic sampling is an established method for providing a representative

sample of a pipeline transfer for the determination of bulk properties,
especially water content, gravity and light ends for fiscal calculations,
allocations and loss control.

Doedijns scope of supply now covers a

comprehensive range of sampling products and
systems.

The main applications are for crude oils including HVP crudes, gas
condensates and associated liquids at production centres, export terminals
and refineries. Other applications include residual fuels, LPG and chemicals.
Doedijns manufactures a range of automatic sampling equipment designed
originally with BP for sampling liquids in pipelines. This equipment is renowned
for its durability, proven by its decades of trouble free use on the North Sea
production platforms. Doedijns also has the capability to design and engineer
complete sampling systems to meet the customers specific requirements
and internationally accepted methods for accurate automatic sampling
of hydrocarbon products. These methods are detailed in the standards:
ISO 3171, IP 6.2, API chapter 8.2 and Gost.
Systems:
Inline sampling systems.
Fast-loop sampling systems.
Composite gas sampling systems.

Products:
Pipeline mixing system.
Liquid and gas take-off probes, retractable
and fixed.
Direct in the line grab samplers.
By-pass loop grab samplers.
High and low pressure sample vessels.
Sample vessel mixing systems.
Weighing systems.
Sample controllers.

Service and maintenance

The service activities of Doedijns are supported
worldwide. Working onsite, the service engineers
of Doedijns ensure that technical challenges
will be handled competently within the planed
schedule.
All service personnel have the relevant and
required safety training to perform their tasks
both on- and offshore.

Pipeline mixing

Sampling probes

The energy available during pipeline transfer maybe enough to disperse

and homogenise the product sufficiently to enable representative sampling.
However, extra mixing will often be required. Doedijns supplies mixing
solutions such as static and power mixers to increase the mixing energy
required for representative sampling. These mixers are selected to meet the
C1/C2 mixing requirements found in ISO 3171.

Doedijns designs and manufactures a range of

standard retractable gas and liquid probes, fixed
probes, and multi-point profiling probes.
Features:
Suitable for pipelines from 4 NB.
Pipeline pressures up to 149 bar (Class 900).
Retractable under full line pressure.
Variable positioning of probe inlet.
Optional choice of materials.
Vortex Shedding calculations are applied to
all probes.
Designed to fully meet ISO 3171, API 8.2
standards.

Receiver vessels
The integrity of the sample during sampling operations is of the utmost
importance. Portable receivers, when designed correctly, can provide the most
reliable solution. Design of the receiver should take into account the medium
to be sampled and the ability to easily mix the contents when connected to an
external mixing system.
Doedijns manufactures and supplies a range of low and high pressure
receivers with various sizes typically from 0.5 to 20 litre.

Receiver mixing system

Due to the lapse of time between taking a sample and the actual analysis,
which maybe several hours, heavier components such as water can drop out
and separate. It is therefore necessary that the contents of the receiver are
sufficiently mixed in order to obtain a homogenous product before taking a
sub sample for analysis. Doedijns manufactures mixing systems, either for
permanent installation in sampling systems or as stand-alone units for use in
laboratories.

Liquid samplers
804 inline sampler
The 804 sampler extracts a fixed size sample of liquid directly from pipelines
with diameters of 4 52 inches at pressures up to 149 bar.
Manufactured in 100% stainless steel the sampler can be used on crude oils,
NGL, LPG, and residual fuels and chemicals. Dual sealing gives extended
operating life.
Available with an integral retractor device to enable positive extraction and
insertion in a live line.
Important advantages:
Enhanced safety when inserting or extracting.
No need for special extended nozzles.
Accurate dynamic positioning of
the probe head.
Retractor device is always available.
Wetted parts available in
other materials.

810 cell sampler

The 810 Cell sampler is designed to be
mounted in a standard 1 inch by-pass loop, with
pressures up to 149 bar. Also manufactured
in 100% stainless steel, this grab sampler has
excellent durability. Its dual sealing system
makes it the most reliable sampler available
even for wet and dirty crude oils. Designed
for simple maintenance, the top-works can be
removed whilst the cell body remains in the
loop. Replacement of the top works takes place
in a matter of minutes.
All samplers meet the ISO and API requirements
for automatic hydrocarbon sampling.
Doedijns can supply electrical or hydraulic
samplers for locations where instrument air is
not available.

Sampling Systems

The systems are designed to meet international

standards such as: ISO, API, ASTM. The systems
generally fall into two categories: In-line and
Fast-loop.

With over 14 years experience of manufacturing sampling systems we are

able to supply custom built solutions to meet our clients specific sampling
requirements.
When designing a system careful attention is given to a number of key
areas, for example: ambient and process conditions, available space,
piping class, hazardous area requirements, material traceability, testing,
and documentation. We are also able to supply fully ATEX-certified systems.

In-line Sampling System

Fast-loop Sampling System

A cost effective method of extracting a representative sample directly from the

pipeline is the In-line Sampling System. The system can be used for a broad
range of refined and unrefined hydrocarbon products. Our model 804 sample
probes have a range of lengths which are selected for a given pipeline diameter.
Extraction and insertion can be done manually or at full line pressure using our
extracting devices. The samples are typically collected in either atmospheric
receivers or constant pressure cylinders. Both sampler and receiver vessels are
housed in stainless steel or GRP enclosures with the following typical optional
extras: insulation, heating, weighing system, automatic can-change system and
sample controllers.

Where higher accuracy is required, such as in

custedy transfer, then a fast-loop system is
recommended. A representative sample is taken
from the centre of the pipeline using our scooped
take-off probe. The system is designed to maintain
isokenetic and homogenous flow throughout the
system. Our 810 bypass cell sampler extracts
a standard 1 cc sample and deposits this into
either atmospheric receivers or constant pressure
cylinders. Some of the major advantages of this
type of system apart from the higher accuracy are
the ease of maintenance, reduced dead volume in
the sample lines and the ability to accommodate
other measuring devices such as water-cut
(BS&W) monitors or densitometers. Housed in
stainless steel or GRP enclosures, these systems
may include many optional features as mentioned
for the inline systems.

Gas Sampling Systems

Doedijns also manufactures composite gas
sampling systems in accordance with the
customers specific requirements.
