ADJECTIVE OR ADVERB

An adjective tells us more about a noun. Example: an expensive car, a clever girl .An
adverb tells us more about a verb. Example: He talked nervously.

With adjectives ending in -ic, add ally: automatic > automatically, academic > academically

hardly = jedva
nearly = skoro

A few adverbs of manner have the same form as the adjective:


The tests are hard
She is late
He is fast

They all worked hard.


She usually arrives late.
I hate driving fast.

He is early. He went home early


He is good at English. He speaks English well.
Note: hardly and lately have different meanings:
He could hardly walk = It was difficult for him to walk.
I havent seen John lately = I havent seen John recently.
Adverbs of manner tell us how someone does something or how something happens. They usually come after
the main verb:

He drank quickly. [after the verb]


He drank the water quickly. [after the object]
He drank (quickly) the water. [NOT between the verb and object]
No adverb with the following verbs
Forms of to be: am, is, are, was, were, have been, had been,
will be
seem, get, turn, grow, sound, feel, taste, become, smell,
look
