1. Geotechnical Investigations
Soil investigation for building, towers and road projects. Field work
mainly consists of drilling and field testing. Drilling is carried out either
by rotary-wash method or percussion method.
Collection of soil and water samples.
Field testing including standard penetration test, pressuremeter test,

downhole seismic test, packer test, field permeability test, field density
test, field CBR test.
Load testing including plate load test and pile load test.
2. Piling Work
Execution of bored cast in situ piles of 16, 22, 26, 30 & 36

diameter. Work includes boring of holes, fabrication of reinforcement
cage, preparation and pouring of concrete.

Reviewed the geological processes associated with the subduction zone
environments.
Reviewed the development of strong-motion recordings from earthquakes
including processing of these records.

Reviewed the development of ground-motion prediction equations with an

emphasis on the equations derived for subduction-zones and peak ground
velocity (PGV) specific equations.
Processed the strong-motion records from the Mexican subduction zone in
order to use these for further statistical analysis.
Performed a statistical analysis for determining the goodness-of-fit of some
PGV and subduction-zone specific ground-motion prediction models for
strong-motion data from the Mexican subduction-zone.
Urban Engineering Project
Seismic analysis of Multi-storey Building using IBC-2006
Studied the response of buildings in earthquake conditions. Learned the
concept and development of the response spectra.
Understanding the use of IBC-2006 in the design on multi-storey buildings.
Selected MCB Tower, Karachi as the case study, modelled and analyzed it

COURSE ON GEOPHYSICS:
Successfully completed a training course in the field of Seismic survey of

Petroleum Exploration at Oil & Gas Development Corporation Ltd., from
5th November 1995 to 22nd November 1995, organized by the
Department of Geology, University of Karachi, in collaboration with OGDC,
Karachi office. In this training course one week field visit was also included
with seismic crew of OGDC working in Gharo and Tando Adam areas of
Sindh province. They were using two sources Vibroseis and Dynamite.
