Process Controls Engineer
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Process Controls Engineer will complete capital projects in the existing plant, design and commissioning
support of a new plant, and various process improvement projects. This position will be responsible for
interfacing with contractors, identifying/scoping new projects, leading project teams, tracking and controlling
budget, timing and quality of projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential position functions):
Design and Project Management
o Specification and design of new control systems and instrumentation systems
o Drawing generation and oversight of construction/installation
o Management of project scope, approval, communication and tracking of project
o Design of proper control schemes and strategies, working with process engineers to
understand the plant operations
o Programming of PLC logic along with graphical HMI software
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
o Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system problems and resolve by modification,
replacement
o Manage the data historian tag list and graphical displays and reporting
o Assist instrument techs in troubleshooting and setup of equipment
Creates and maintains process documentation
o Maintains I/O lists, control specification documents and instrumentation data sheets
o Create and maintain control docs, P&ID's, process control procedures, design basis
procedures, data sheets, I/O lists, etc.
o Provides technical training and supervision to operators and process
Ongoing Process Improvement efforts
o Identifies and scopes out large capital project needs
o Participate on large capital project teams
o Identify and lead small capital projects
Identification of production issues and bottlenecks
Work with purchasing, vendors, maintenance, contractors, operators, and other team
members to complete project
Utilizes Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor process and to setup Design of
Experiments(DOE)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
5-10 years experience as a process controls engineer in a chemical, mining, petroleum or heavy
industrial setting
BS degree in Electrical Engineering required
Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC/DCS systems
Experience in purchasing and setting up new control systems and instrumentation systems (DCS/PLC
with data historian)
Experience with a wide range of instrumentation (temp, control valves, flowmeters, pH, VFDs, etc)
Experience with the following unit ops is preferred (reactors, filters, pumps, DCS/PLC control systems,
wet scrubbers, kilns, dryers, etc.)
Solvent Extraction, Chlor-Alkali or Co-Gen power plant experience is a plus
Experience in daily maintenance troubleshooting is required
Experience in process improvements from concept (identification, scoping, design, procurement) to
installation
Knowledge of how to create, read and modify electrical and control diagrams, PFDs and P&IDs
Ability to identify and solve problems and convince others (management down to operators) that your
solution is the right one
Good written and verbal skills
Computer skills should include Microsoft Office, Project or Primavera, AutoCAD

Our facility is at an elevation of 4700 feet
