ECTASY, PILLS, HEROIN, KETUM, GANJA, K PILLS; these are the
drugs that quite a lot of our Muslim teenagers know instead of the beautiful verse of the Quran. Illegal racing, unwanted pregnancy, abortion, baby dumping, rape and the list goes on! These are what we the Malaysian Muslim teenagers are good at! Should we be proud of them? Should we smile for such achievement? No, you dont have to answer that question. Just take a moment to think about it. Where will we, the Malaysian Muslim, be in another 20 or even 10 years from now? (Pause) Assalamualaikum wbt and Good morning to:
Today, instead of explaining and expounding about these
problem which I think most of us are aware of, I will be talking about the remedies. It is not about the why, but it is the how which is essential. How can we stop them, how can we eliminate these problems and how can we elevate the quality of life among our Muslim brothers and sisters. In this little space and time that I have, I would like to propose three ways which can be implemented as the remedy for the worsening social problem among the Malaysian Muslim teenagers.
Firstly, the role of parents and family is vital in overcoming the
social problems. Teenagers spend most of their lives with parents and family. Nobody knows them better than the family. There is no short cut in developing a great individual; the journey of development need to start from the womb. The person that we raised is the reflection of what we have taught and educate them. Education starts from home. Teach them the right and wrong even before they can walk! Teach them to give and to love even after we cant walk! reinforce them through our action and Insyaallah! With more people doing the same thing, we can develop a better future for our teenagers and ultimately strengthening the Ummah.
Teenagers need a clear and transparent explanation why they
have to and do not have to do something. Give them the right information
without
hiding
any
fact,
so
that
they
will
understand well the reasons. Never lie to them in order to stop
them from doing the wrong things. This action will leave a bad perspective to the teenagers that adults like to lie and make them find the answer through other uncontrolled sources. During these years, adolescents are faced with difficult tasks of discovering their self-identity, clarifying their sexual roles, assenting independent, learning to cope with authority and searching for goals that would give their lives meaning. They need guidance and assurance. And the best source of guidance is from the parents, teachers, family and community.
Secondly, the cure for social problem is a positive life-long
education. Education will give them purpose, will help them to develop their path in life and will inspire them to think positively in whatever work that they are doing. Without education,
the
fragile
teenagers
may
be
misled
into
treacherous path by the influence of friends and social Medias.
It must be remembered, education is not just about learning English, science or mathematic in school. Education is about developing an individual by providing and equipping them with essential knowledge which they can use throughout life. If they can understand the danger of drugs, the menace of illegal racing, and the humiliation of being a mother of an out of wedlock child through education, I am quite sure that they wont even have the heart to try those things.
Finally, the most effective remedies that has been suggested
by Allah in the Quran is by two simple steps which are prayers and fasting by the individual. While every pillar of Islam serves to strengthen the soul, the five daily prayers and the fasting during the holy month of Ramadan are especially beneficial in disciplining the soul. The Glorious Quran says;
Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee,
and establish regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah knows the (deeds) that ye do. [Al-Quran 29:45] Fasting is universally recognized as a means of gaining selfcontrol, and in Islam, also a means of gaining closeness to God. O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) selfrestraint, [Al-Quran 2:183] Prayer and fasting are therefore like the shields of the human soul, by which it can protect itself from the onslaughts of modern temptations, and lead a healthy, balanced and productive life.
To summarize, again I want to remind myself and all of us that
in order for us to tackle these problem among the Muslim teenagers, we need to get back to the root. We can ask the police to do raid in the club, roadblock on the road and neverending social campaign but those efforts will be worthless if we do not strike the root of the problem which is educating the young mind through home, school and the community. I think that is all for today, thank you for the time and Im going to finish this talk with assalamualaikum warahmatullah hi wabaraktuh
