TEACHERS POST

1. Tell us about yourself.

I am a young man of 24 years old and I am a holder of a degree
in the field for which I have applied to teach, which is accounting.
I have always had and still have a passion for accounting and it is
this passion which helped me to perform well during my HSC and
it is this very passion which made me choose my career path and
the way I was to continue my studies. I am also an ex-employee
at the MHC Ltd where I used to work as an EA, from where I have
got experience in working and dealing with people esp. members
of the public.

2. What relevant experience do you have?

The only experience that I have is my stay for 15 months at the
MHC limited as an EA where my work was mostly of office type.
But concerning the field of teaching, I dont have any.
However, I have followed courses in leadership and Im sure that
this will be an asset for me.

3. Why do you want to become a teacher?

In addition to my great passion for accounting, Ive also had a
dream to teach others everything that I know about this subject.
This brings me great satisfaction when Im able to impart and
share my knowledge with others and especially if it is helpful to
them.
4. What qualities should a good teacher have?
Patience esp. with todays young generation which is very
different from that of earlier times.

Commitment, punctuality and a good sense of discipline &

hardwork because success of the students depends also on the
attitude of the teacher and the image and example that he gives
whilst teaching.
Sense of Leadership because a teacher should be able to
motivate his students to strive and work hard and also to attend
classes regularly.
Well-versed in the subjects he/she is teaching.
5. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths:
I am always committed to what I do esp. when hundreds of
students and other people are relying on me greatly to pass their
exams.
I have already been exposed to the working environment and Im
used to dealing with members of the public belonging to different
age groups and I think this will help me enormously in working
comfortably with my future students.
I am also well-versed in the field of accounting esp. thanks to my
degree which enhanced my knowledge a lot.
Weaknesses:
I think that since Im new to the field of teaching and since I dont
have any official experience, obviously this is going to make
things a bit harder for me. But I am confident of my capabilities
and Ive always proved to be a fast learner & adaptator and Im
sure that I will be able to overcome this.
6. Why did you choose our college and where did you get
information about us/how much do you know about us?
I did not have enough time to research about the college but as
soon as I heard that there was a vacancy for the post of
accounting teacher, I immediately decided to apply for it.
7. For how long do you want to stay as a teacher?
I wish to stay as a teacher as long as I can and as long as your
college needs me.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years from now?

I expect to become a full-time employed teacher in your college
and also become a PGCE holder.

9. What future projects do you have once you get the job?
I plan to follow my PGCE at the MIE to upgrade my qualifications
as a teacher.

10.

Why makes you think you are fit for this job?

I think so because Ive been through the criteria that a good

accounting teacher should have and Im confident that the skills I
possess match those criteria.
11.

Why have you not yet started your PGCE?

Because I am waiting to get employed so that Im able to follow

the courses on a part time basis and on my own account. And
since I will be working in the meantime, I will be able to gather
practical experience on the field at the same time, which will be a
plus to my PGCE qualification after having completed it. This will
also speed up my journey through my career path.
12.
How are you when you're working under
pressure? /How do you handle pressure and stress?
I always strive under pressure because pressure has always
formed part of my journey at work and handling it was very
important, esp. when it came to dealing with the public since I
used to deal directly with customers. Besides, the company used
to provide us with training sessions on time and stress
management, which has made me a very resilient person when it

comes to pressure and stress in the workplace. I always try to

stay positive and calm when Im under pressure and try my best
to focus on the job and not get distracted.

13.

Would you rather work for money or job satisfaction?

Money is an extrinsic reward and I am that kind of guy who

prefers intrinsic rewards like self-satisfaction and job satisfaction
to extrinsic ones. For me, job satisfaction is more important as it
is very important to be satisfied about the job that Im doing no
matter what the salary is. As money-mindedness at the cost of
job satisfaction will definitely have an adverse effect on the
quality of my work and the way I do it.
14.

What motivates you?

I am always motivated by the element of challenge in the

workplace and I know that teaching is a very challenging
profession because it is always ever-evolving and one always
need to stay up-to-date. Im also motivated by the dynamic
environment in which a teacher has to work. And to be honest
with you, working in a static environment like an office where I
have to sit behind a desk and do everyday routine tasks does not
suit me that much.

15.

How would your friends describe you?

My friends would describe as someone very hardworking, a very

friendly and calm person but not so shy and someone who likes
to socialize as well as someone who likes to share his knowledge
with other people because during college, I could be seen
everyday in the library trying to help my friends about issues
concerning a particular subject esp. accounting.
16.

Can you describe your dream job?

I always dream of getting a job where the environment and the

people are comfortable to work with and a job where I am able
to communicate with people everyday. I also dream about a job
for which I cant wait to get to work in the morning when I wake
up. And it happens that teaching does satisfy the criteria that I
just mentioned.

17.
Tell me about your experience in dealing with people
and members of the public.
My 8 months experience as a teller in a banking hall and 7
months as a part-time waiter in a hotel has enabled me to
overcome my shyness and to become more confident when Im
talking to people.
18.

What do you think of corporal punishment?

There was a time when it used to work but nowadays, the

society has evolved greatly and there are other alternative
methods to corporal punishment at school. Besides, for me,
corporal punishment is very demotivating for the student and is
an archaic way of dealing with matters of indiscipline, etc. I think
it is a good thing that it is no longer in force.
