PlantCruise by Experion was unveiled 27 Feb to 15 media attendees, with
customers and system integrators attending. This product exemplifies
strategic segmentation - a product designed for mid-tier customers, sold
only through system integrators and released first for the Chinese market.
This launch embodies the meaning of being a competitive global company
absorbing local characteristics and meeting local requirements within the
context of global processes, R&D expertise and quality standards. The
team adopted an entrepreneurial mindset with a long-term vision, intelligent
risk-taking and fast execution to provide customers with quality products
and solutions on time.
It is a purpose-built integrator-friendly DCS leveraging proven Experion
PKS technology to meet specific customer needs. Designed specifically for
mid-tier plants needing a simple but robust control system, PlantCruise by

1. Whats PlantCruise by Experion?
As a member of Honeywells Experion family, PlantCruise by Experion is specifically designed
to meet customer needs in mid-tier markets, through innovative technology from the awardwinning Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) with innovative design of Series 8 I/O
modules and cabinets, validated wider range of COTS options, easier engineering and
maintenance capabilities, and integrator-friendly programs and tools. PlantCruise is the
perfect platform for process, asset and business management with small to medium
complexity, and enables customers to increase their profitability and productivity and
accessibility to local support without sacrificing quality and reliability in an increasingly
competitive environment.
2. How is different from Experion PKS ?
PlantCruise by Experion is developed on the basis of the Experion PKS, and keep the best of
proven Experion PKS technology, like the C300 Controller, Fault Tolerant Ethernet, Profit
Loop and other advanced technologies. The main differences are:
PlantCruise is designed specifically for customers who dont require Honeywell to

provide project engineering and without the overhead of features required for
continuous and hazardous processes such as those in the hydrocarbon processing
industry.
PlantCruise by Experion fits for small/middle applications; Experion PKS provides

better supports for big and complex applications
Experion PKS is compatible with Honeywells early system or version, PlantCruise by

Experion only support the latest C300 controller.
Instead of supporting the Experion PKS Series C input / output modules, PlantCruise
by the Experion supports Series 8 input / output modules, which offer HART/NonHART and coating/uncoating options.
PlantCruise by Experion provides more COTS equipments verified by Honeywell,

such as workstations, switches, power supplies, etc., to help SI and user reduce
procurement and maintenance costs.
The cabinet in PlantCruise by the Experion system can be flexibly configured as

combined/ single cabinet, high density / low density cabinet, the standalone system
cabinet / mixed marshalling cabinet.
PlantCruise by Experion remove parts or functions that are less commonly used or
duplicate to simplify the system, such as the Flex Station, Console Extension, alarm
paging, etc.
PlantCruise by the Experion software has been optimized to simplify the configuration
of the control strategy.
PlantCruise by Experion provides SI (system integrator)-friendly configuration tools

and features and specifically fits for integrations and project engineering to be
provided by system integrators to end-users.
PlantCruise by Experion will provide a set of engineering configuration templates for

typical mid-tier Chemical processes based on Honeywells engineering experiences to
help system integrators to deliver project configurations to end-customers in a higher

3. How is it different from Experion LS ?

PlantCruise by Experion uses new I/O modules based on the Series C proven design without
a passive backplane. PlantCruise by Experion can support bigger control application,
compared with Experion LS.
4. Can end users buy it from Honeywell direct sales channel?
No, PlantCruise is an exclusive indirect channel product line. The Honeywell direct channel
can tailor Experion PKS configurations to meet the broadest set of possible needs.

6. Whats the system architecture?

The PlantCruise system comprises many different integrated hardware and software solutions
depending upon the needs of the application. The pictured architecture is a representation of
many of the possible nodes that can be used in the PlantCruise architecture. Note that the
architecture is highly scalable and not all nodes are necessary or required.
7. What are the functions and features of Engineering Station in PlantCruise by Experion?
Engineering stations in PlantCruise are used for the configuration of control strategy,
operation and management of the database, configuration and management of assets,
creation of trends and groups, settings of history and report information, configuration and
management of security permissions, hardware device configuration (such as printers,
switches, etc.), network configuration, configuration and management of Distributed System
Architecture (DSA).
Because system architecture of PlantCruise is simplified, the requirements for hardware
performance of engineering station are greatly reduced. For small-scale applications (e.g.
below 5000 ~ 8000 IO points), the engineering station may use the same hardware platform
as the operator station.
8. What are the functions and features of Operator Station in PlantCruise by Experion?
Operator stations in PlantCruise are direct operating station (Direct Station), which are
connected to process controller and can directly access process data, alarms, and messages
from C300 and so on. There is no loss of view of critical data and alarms when the
engineering station fails and therefore an operator can still control and monitor the process,
which is helpful in an environment where continuity of monitoring is very important to the
process.
9. What are the features of control network in PlantCruise by Experion?

PlantCruise by Experion control network is fault-tolerant Ethernet (FTE), which is Honeywell's
patented technology, a single (logical) network but has redundant network structure
(physical). With Honeywell FTE driver, as well as commercial network equipment, FTE
network provides not only fault tolerance feature but also the performance, determinism, and
security required for industrial control applications.
Tolerate all single point failures, as well as many multiple-point failures, provides
advanced routing as alternative to the traditional dual redundant network.
Fast switching, the switch-over time is approximately one second. The switch-over
time of traditional dual redundant network structure is about 20-30 seconds
