provided for the purpose]
1. Explain the various methods of sampling.
(Refer Unit 7)
2. a. The incidence of occupational disease in an industry is such that the workers have a
20% chance of suffering from it. What is the probability that out of six workers 4 or more
will contract the disease?
(The probability of a worker suffering from disease = 1/5, The probability of a worker not
suffering from disease = 4/5, Using Binomial Distribution the probability of 4 or more, i.e.
4,5 or 6 will contract disease is given by P[X 4] = P[4] + P[5] + P[6] = 0.01696. Refer Unit

(Calculated value of chi-square - 55.54, Table value of chi-square at 5% level of significance
for 2 df 5.991. The calculated value of chi-square is much higher than the table value.
Hence, the hypothesis does not hold good. This means that the technique adopted by two
investigators differ and are not similar. Refer Unit 10)

6. a. Test whether 5 men differ with respect to mean productivity.
b. Test whether the mean productivity is the same for the four different machine types.
Using = 0.05.
(With respect to the rows, F= 6.57 > 3.26 = F0.05 with the degrees of freedom (4,12). With
respect to the columns, F = 18.39 > 3.49 = F0.05 with the degrees of freedom (3,12). The 5
workers differ significantly and the 4 machine types differ significantly with respect to the
mean productivity. Refer Unit 11)
