Final Demo Teaching Lesson Plan

The lesson plan teaches students in Grade 3 how to calculate the area of rectangles. It reviews measuring units and has students practice calculating the areas of examples like Mang Kiko's feet. Students work in groups to calculate areas of different rectangles. The lesson emphasizes using the appropriate measuring units of squares centimeters for small objects and square meters for larger spaces. Students demonstrate understanding by correctly calculating the areas of examples like notebooks, swimming pools, and school properties.

2. REVIEW
Call the pupils to convert the following
measurements to indicate unit.
100 cm= ________m
8 m= ________cm
600 cm= ________m
400 cm= ________m
5 m=________cm

3. MOTIVATION
Do you know the song Bahay Kubo?

Yes Maam

We can use the tune of the song

Bahay Kubo in singing the song
Whats Mang Kiko is made of.

WHATS MANG KIKO MADE OF

Tune: bahay kubo
Whats Mang Kiko made of (3x)
Triangle and, Square,
Oblong, Circle and Rectangle.
Thats what Mang Kiko is Made of.
-

Triangle
square,
oblong
Circle,
Rectangle

Yes Maam
Table (rectangle)
Mountain (triangle)

God

Yes, because all of the things around us

are God creation and gift that we must
take care of.

rectangle

The column
Row

This feet of Mang Kiko, which is the

length? The width?

Ruler or tape measure

If we want to know the measure of

this, what instrument can we use?
If we use ruler, what appropriate unit
of measure must we use? Why?

Centimeter, because it is small figure

Based on the song, What are the

figures/ shapes mentioned in the song?

Like Mang Kiko, can we find shapes in

our surroundings?
What object or things that have the
shape like Mang Kiko?
Who created this shapes?
Do we need to appreciate and take care
all the things around us? Why?

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Presentation

What shape does Mang Kikos feet

was made?

Now, we can measure the feet of

Mang Kiko by using the ruler.
First, we measure the length. It is 6
cm long. And the width is 3 cm.
We can now find the area of the
rectangle. We just need to multiply
the length and the width.

Show the formula in getting the area

of the rectangle.

A= lxw
=6x3
= 18

A= l x w
So if the length of Mang Kikos feet is 6
cm, and the width is 3 cm, what is the
area of Mang Kikos feet?
What is the standard unit of measure
in the answer?

18 square centimeters
-

No, because the room is big.

Yes, but it takes a long time to get the area

Square meter

Can we use square centimeters in

finding the area of this classroom?
Why?
What appropriate unit of measure can
we use in finding the area of the room?
Let say that we already measure the
length of the room and we get 10
meters for the length and the width is 8
meters. What is the area of the room?
Call a pupil to solve it on the board.

A= lxw
= 10 meters x 8 meters
= 80 square meters
-

square meters

What is the standard unit for area

measure of the room?
2. Performing the Activity
Divide the class into 4 groups. And let
them find and solve the following:

12 square meters

Group 1:

2m

50 square centimeters
6m

Group 2:

5cm

32 square meters
10 c m

Group 3:

4m
8m

45 square centimeters

Square centimeter
Square meter
By multiplying the length and the width.

Group 4:

5 cm

9 cm

C. Generalization
What unit of area measure we must use if
the object is small? Big?
How can we find the area of the
rectangle?

A= lxw
= 8 meter x 4 meter
= 32 square meter

D. Application

A= lxw
= 15 centimeter x 8 centimeter
= 120 square centimeter

1. The swimming pool has a length of 8

meters and the width is 4 meters. What
is the area of the pool?

2. Perlas notebook has a length of 15 cm

long and width of 8 cm. What is the
area of the notebook?
IV.

EVALUATION
Find the area of a rectangle and put the
appropriate units of area measure.

72 square cm.

75 square cm

1.
6 cm

12 cm

5 cm

2.

15 cm

88 sq. meter

250 square m.

900 square meters.

3.
8m

11 m

4. The school playground is 25 m long and

has a width of 10 m. what is the area
of the playground?
5. What is the area of the auditorium
which has the length of 45 meters and
width of 20 meters?

V.

ASSIGNMENT
1. If the chapel has an area of 360 square meters and the width is 60 meters, what is the
length of the chapel?
2. The paper has the length of 20 cm and its total area is 80, what is the width of the
paper?
