Dress Bodice:
Note: ch 3 (turning ch) counts as dc throughout.

dc in each of next 10;
5 dc in next; dc in each of next 12; 5 dc in next; dc in each of next 18;
5 dc in next; dc in each of next 12; 5 dc in next; dc in each of next 11.
ch 3, turn.
Rows 2 - 7: dc in each dc with 5 dc's in each corner;
(corner = middle dc of the 5 dc's that make up the corner)
ch 2, turn (counts as sc)
Row 8: (refer to photos below as necessary)
sc in each dc to corner. Bring corners together on each side to make armholes.
Continue sc in next corner, and across front to next corner. Again, bring
corners together. sc in next corner, to end of row. Cut thread
Row 9: Attach red in first sc & chain 3; trc in each sc across. (you will later
weave ribbon through this)
Rnd 3: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, sc in next sc, *(2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc)*
around; join with sl st to first sc. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: ch 1, 2 sc in same st, sc in next sc, *(2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc)*
around; join with sl st. (24 sc)
Leave a long "tail" when cutting thread, to use for sewing circle onto dress.
Hat
ch 3; join to form ring Note: In the hat, I recommend a ch 2 instead of ch 3
that will count as a dc. I thought it made the hat overall neater.
Rnd 1: ch 2 (counts as dc now & throughout)
11 dc in ring. join to first "dc" with sl st. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: ch 2; 1 dc in same st (counts as 2 dc in first dc)
2 dc in each dc around. Join with sl st (24 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (36 dc)
Rnd 4: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next 2 dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 2 dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (48 dc)
Rnd 5: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next 3 dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (60 dc)
Rnd 6: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next 4 dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 4 dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (72 dc)
Rnd 7: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next 5 dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 5 dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (84 dc)
Rnd 8: ch 2; dc in next dc & each dc around. Join to 1st dc with sl st.
Rep Rnd 8, 11 more times.
Ruffle: V st = dc, ch 1, dc in same st
Step 1: ch 3 (counts as dc plus ch 1) dc in same st (counts as
V st) *(Work V st in each dc. join with sl st to first V st)*
Step 2: Ch 2, dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch 1 sp of V st. (counts as shell)
*(Work shell in ch 1 sp of each V st around)* join with sl st
Step 3: With black: attach thread in ch 1 sp of shell.
Ch 2; dc, ch 1, 2dc in same sp (counts as shell). Work shell in each shell
around. sl st to first shell. Cut thread, weave ends.
Antenna: (Make 2) As you work, hide thread end inside.
Cont work in rounds--no need to "join" With black, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 4 sc in second ch from hk
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each stitch around. (8 sc)
Rnd 3 & 4: sc in each sc around
Rnd 5 to end: sc around, decreasing as you go by crocheting
2 sc together until top is closed. ch 12.
Leaving enough thread for sewing, cut thread. Sew antennae into top of hat.
