Dress Bodice:
Note: ch 3 (turning ch) counts as dc throughout.
Row 1: With Black: ch 72. dc in 4th st from hk;
dc in each of next 10;
5 dc in next; dc in each of next 12; 5 dc in next; dc in each of next 18;
5 dc in next; dc in each of next 12; 5 dc in next; dc in each of next 11.
ch 3, turn.
Rows 2 - 7: dc in each dc with 5 dc's in each corner;
(corner = middle dc of the 5 dc's that make up the corner)
ch 2, turn (counts as sc)
Row 8: (refer to photos below as necessary)
sc in each dc to corner. Bring corners together on each side to make armholes.
Continue sc in next corner, and across front to next corner. Again, bring
corners together. sc in next corner, to end of row. Cut thread
Row 9: Attach red in first sc & chain 3; trc in each sc across. (you will later
weave ribbon through this)
Row 10: Shell = 2dc; ch 1; 2 dc in same st
Ch 3; dc in next trc; *(sk next trc; shell in next trc; sk next trc; shell in next trc;
sk next trc; dc in each of next 3 dc)* rep to last shell then dc to end of row.
Overlap 2 dc or as many dc as necessary to keep pattern consistent.
sl st to secure. Cont. skirt working in rounds - do not turn work

"Rnd" 11: Work pattern as follows:

Rnd 12: (increase rnd) ch 3 (counts as dc) and cont pattern as follows:
*(dc in each dc working 2 dc in last dc of each 3 dc group;
shell in ch 1 sp of each shell)* sl st to first dc to join rnd.
Rnd 13 - 16: ch 3; cont. pattern as follows:
*(dc in each dc; shell in ch 1 sp of each shell)* join with sl st.
Rnd 17: (increase rnd) ch 3 and cont. pattern as follows:

Trim:
Two shells side by side = a 2 shell group.
Attach black thread in ch 1 sp of a 2nd shell
of any 2 shell group; Ch 3 (counts as dc);
dc in same space; ch 1, 2 dc (counts as
shell) *(Work shell in first dc (of the 5 dc
group); sk next dc; shell in next dc;
sk next dc; shell in next dc; sk next dc; shell in ch 1 sp of each shell)*
Join with sl st. Cut thread & weave in ends.
Neck Trim & Buttonholes:
Attach red thread at bottom of opening on the button side. Working in
ends of rows, *(2 hdc in each row ending in dc, 1 hdc in the row
ending in sc; work 3 hdc at corner; 1 hdc in each st around neckline;
3 hdc in corner on buttonhole side; work down buttonhole side as you
did for button side. At the end of row, ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in ea hdc;
Leave spaces as desired for buttonholes by: Ch 4 (for large buttons as
in photo), sk 4 hdc then resume sc. End with sc at end of row.
cut thread. Attach thread to each sleeve; ch 2; hdc in each stitch around.
Circles: Make 13
Rnd 1:with Black: ch 2; 6 sc in second ch from hk; join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in same st and each sc around. join with sl st to first sc.12 sc

Hat
ch 3; join to form ring Note: In the hat, I recommend a ch 2 instead of ch 3
that will count as a dc. I thought it made the hat overall neater.
Rnd 1: ch 2 (counts as dc now & throughout)
11 dc in ring. join to first "dc" with sl st. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: ch 2; 1 dc in same st (counts as 2 dc in first dc)
2 dc in each dc around. Join with sl st (24 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (36 dc)
Rnd 4: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next 2 dc;
*(2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 2 dc)* rep around; sl st to first dc. (48 dc)
Rnd 5: ch 2; 1 dc in same st; 1 dc in next 3 dc;

Antenna: (Make 2) As you work, hide thread end inside.
Cont work in rounds--no need to "join" With black, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 4 sc in second ch from hk
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each stitch around. (8 sc)
Rnd 3 & 4: sc in each sc around
Rnd 5 to end: sc around, decreasing as you go by crocheting
2 sc together until top is closed. ch 12.
Leaving enough thread for sewing, cut thread. Sew antennae into top of hat.
