INTRODUCTION

This guide provides an overview of how to manage aircraft

data load functions using CPAS-3000 software. The data
loader portion of CPAS-3000 transfers data files between a
computer or tablet personal computer and various aircraft
Line Replaceable Units (LRU). Please contact 319-295-5000
for technical support.
NOTE
This document is intended for quick reference only. For
detailed operating instructions of CPAS-3000 software,
please refer to the Rockwell Collins CPAS-3000 Data
Loader Operators Guide, CPN 523-0790386.
Complete the checklists that follow, in the order shown below,
to install data into IFIS-5000 equipped aircraft using CPAS.

Launch CPAS and Load Data

NOTE
Aircraft loadable data from Rockwell Collins and
Jeppesen is available through internet delivery and/or
CD. This document will highlight the procedures for data
received through the internet, and discusses CD
operational issues where appropriate.
CAUTION
The computer network settings required by CPAS vs. the
internet vary greatly, and it is recommended to dedicate
the CPAS computer to aircraft use only. This document
will highlight the use of a USB memory device to transfer
data from an internet capable computer to the CPAS
computer. This is not the only method available to load
data in CPAS, but it is highly recommended.

Go to www.rockwellcollins.com/fms.
Select the DATABASE DOWNLOADS link.
Select the DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS link.
Save and print a copy of the document instructions.
Follow the instructions in the section for CPAS-3000.

Download and Unzip Data

indicates Importing data. A DONE message shows when
finished.

13. Select CLOSE. The data imported displays in the

Manage Data/Software window.

14. Repeat steps 4 to 13 for any additional databases to

import.
CHECKLIST III
Download and Import Jeppesen Data
Download and Unzip Data
NOTE
Jeppesen E-Chart data received through the internet
downloads using Jeppesen Services Update Manager
(JSUM). As with Rockwell Collins Databases, data
downloaded through JSUM will need to be extracted and
copied to the USB device. For detailed instructions on
this
process,
contact
Jeppesen
or
go
to
www.jeppesen.com.
1. Download Jeppesen E-Chart data using Jeppesen JSUM
download procedures.
2. Extract the Jeppesen data to the USB device using
Jeppesen JSUM procedures.
Import Data to CPAS
1. Verify Jeppesen data is properly extracted to the USB
device.
2. From Checklist II, complete steps 1 to 14 shown for
importing Rockwell Collins data to CPAS.
NOTE
Rockwell Collins and Jeppesen data may also be
received in CD format.

7. Select OK.

8. The Select Data/Software to Import window will open.

9. Verify the SEARCH SUBDIRECTORIES box is checked.

CHECKLIST IV
Prepare the Aircraft for Dataload

CHECKLIST V
Launch CPAS and Load Data
1. Open the CPAS-3000 LAUNCHPAD icon on the desktop.

NOTE
Dataload functions are only available when the aircraft is
on ground.
1. It is recommended that the CPAS computer be plugged
into an external power source, and that any power saving
features be deactivated.
2. Connect the computer to the aircraft Ethernet port with a
RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable.
CAUTION
There are two types of available Ethernet cables, straight
and crossover. Contact your aircraft OEM to determine
which is appropriate for your aircraft.
NOTE
Ethernet port locations vary by aircraft. Contact your
aircraft OEM to determine port location for your aircraft.
NOTE
For aircraft equipped with dual Collins IFIS-5000, there
will typically be two installed Ethernet ports. Each IFIS
system is data loaded independently.
3. Place any installed data load or maintenance switch to its
proper position to enable data load.
NOTE
The location and labels of any installed data load
switching can vary by aircraft. Contact your aircraft OEM
to verify switch location and correct position for dataload
operations.

4. If an XM Broadcast Weather receiver is installed, it is

recommended to open (pull) the circuit breaker for this
receiver.
NOTE
The location and label of this circuit breaker varies by
aircraft. Contact your aircraft OEM to verify circuit
breaker location and label.

2. Open the DATALOAD button. Make sure that the

message WAITING FOR THE NETWORK ADAPTER TO
BE CONFIGURED AND FOR CPAS TO START UP is
shows.

NOTE
In some aircraft, the STAT button on the CCP is labeled
DATABASE. The functionality remains the same.

CPAS-3000 Data Loading Instructions

Quick Reference Guide

8. Select the data file to be loaded.

9. Select the BEGIN LOAD button.

3. Once the CPAS DATALOADER window opens, select

the REFRESH TARGETS button. When selected, the
REFRESH TARGETS button will gray out while target
connections are made.

NOTE
If the aircraft has dual Rockwell Collins FMS, then once
an FMC 1 dataload is started, a dataload to FMC 2 can
also be started. The two FMCs will load simultaneously.
10. Monitor the progress indicators.

NOTE
On the MFD, the database list is removed and a
PROCESSING REQUEST message is displayed. This
message is replaced with DATABASE EFFECTIVITY
FAULT and FSU INOP messages. All of these are
normal messages during a CPAS dataload.
4. Wait for the REFRESH TARGETS button to restore.
5. Select the drop-down menu in the SELECT
TARGET/LRU TO BE UPDATED field. Make sure all the
available targets are shown.
429 Based LRUs
FMC 1
FMC 2, if equipped with a dual Rockwell Collins FMS
FSU
MDC
NODE.

5. Push the STAT button on the Cursor Control Panel

(CCP) to display the DATABASE EFFECTIVITY page on
the Multifunction Display (MFD). Do not continue with
data load operations until a complete list of installed data
packages is shown.
CAUTION
Beginning a data load to the aircraft before the database
list is fully populated will prevent normal data load
operations and can damage the File Server Unit (FSU).

6. Highlight and select the intended target:

a. Select FSU if loading E-Maps, Jeppesen data, or
Graphic Weather databases.
b. Select FMC 1 or FMC 2 if loading FMS navigation
data.
7. Select the drop-down menu in the SELECT
DATA/SOFTWARE TO BE UPDATED field.

CAUTION
If all targets are not visible, do not proceed. Contact
Rockwell Collins for technical assistance, 319-295-5000.

11. When loading is complete, repeat steps 5 to 10 for

additional databases to be loaded.
12. When all dataloads are complete, select the EXIT CPAS
button.

NOTICE
INFORMATION SUBJECT TO EXPORT
CONTROL LAWS

13. The message WAITING FOR THE ORIGINAL

NETWORK
ADAPTER
PARAMETERS
TO
BE
RESTORED AND FOR CPAS-3000 TO SHUT DOWN
will appear. Once the message clears, exit CPAS.
14. Monitor the DATABASE EFFECTIVITY page on the MFD
until it has rebuilt the full list of databases. This is the
indication that the FSU has restarted normally.
CAUTION
Shutting down avionics or aircraft power before the FSU
has fully restarted can invalidate and corrupt the
installed data. If this happens, the affected databases
must be completely reloaded.
15. Reset all aircraft switches and circuit breakers to their
normal positions.
16. Inspect the DATABASE EFFECTIVITY page for database
currency.

The technical data in this document (or file) is

controlled for export under the Export Administration
Regulations (EAR), 15 CFR Parts 730-774. Violations
of these laws may be subject to fines and penalties
under the Export Administration Act.
