Green processes manufacturer of paints and coatings

What is paints?
Paint is a term used to describe a number of substances that consist of a
pigment suspended in a liquid or paste vehicle such as oil or water. With a
brush, a roller, or a spray gun, paint is applied in a thin coat to various
surfaces such as wood, metal, or stone. Although its primary purpose is to
protect the surface to which it is applied, paint also provides decoration.
What is Green process?
Green Process refers to measures to eliminate the environmental
burden in such areas as resources input, chemical substances use
and energy consumption to the greatest extent possible from all the
processes involved in manufacturing the Group's products.
Process of paint production
Process 1: Raw Materials
Resin, pigment and additive agents are generally major components of
paint. CMP(comprehensive metabolic panel) conducts purchasing activities
considering fairness and environmental protection.
Process 2 :Mixing
Resin, pigment and solvent are mixed to produce an even mill base.
Process 3: Milling
Mill base produced at the pre-mixing process is sent to the disperser to
finely disperse the pigment particles.
Process 4: Blending
Resin, additive agents and so on are added to the mill base, the
dispersion of which is completed. Also, the color phase is adjusted with color
materials.
Process 5 :Filtering
Blended and toned paint is filtrated.
Process 6: Packing

Filtrated paint is packed into a container.

Process 7: Shipment
Produced paint products are transported to shipyards, construction
sites and industry product plants, and so on to bring rich color into our lives.
The Production Process
Paint and coatings are manufactured through four basic steps, which must be
adapted to the characteristics of different ingredients:
Paint & Coatings are made in a batch process where the appropriate ingredients are
mixed together to attain the type of paint desired. The ingredients and the paint
mixtures are subjected to stringent tests throughout the process to ensure quality.
Natural or organic resins used as binders are pumped from rail and transports into
on-site storage vessels.
Solvents (low-viscosity liquids such as water, organic oils, petroleum-based oils,
or other synthetic liquids) are pumped from storage vessels or pipelines into on-site
storage vessels.
Pigments and/or powders are mixed together with resins, solvents and additives in
a large pre-dispersion mixing vessel:
Sand Mills - Most industrial-grade paints are routed into a sand mill that
agitates and grinds the pigment particles to disperse them throughout the
paint, then filtered to remove the sand particles.
The Four Major Steps of the Production Process Fluidization
High-Speed Dispersion Mixers Ninety percent of commercial-use
waterbased latex paints are processed in high-speed dispersion tanks where
the pre-mixed paste is subjected to high-speed agitation by a circular,
toothed blade attached to a rotating shaft, blending the pigment into the
liquid.
Whether created by a sand mill or high-speed dispersion mixer, the paint is
then pumped into a large kettle where it is thinned (agitated with the proper
amount of thinner/solvent) to create the type of paint desired.
The finished paint product is thoroughly inspected for its color, density,
fineness of grind, dispersion, drying, texture, scrub-ability, mar resistance,
adhesion, settling, weathering and fire retardancy.
The finished paint is then pumped into transport vehicles, drums or to the
canning room, where the cans are labeled, filled and packaged for shipment.

By-product/waste is generally treated at on-site water-treatment facilities

and converted to low quality paint, fillers for other industrial products, or
used as fuel for other industries.
A large paint manufacturer will have an in-house wastewater
treatment facility that treats all liquids generated on-site, even storm water
run-off. The facility is monitored 24 hours a day, and the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) does a periodic records and systems check of all
paint facilities. The liquid portion of the waste is treated on-site to the
standards of the local publicly owned wastewater treatment facility; it can be
used to make low-quality paint.

Latex sludge can be retrieved and used as fillers in other industrial products.
Waste solvents can be recovered and used as fuels for other industries. A
clean paint container can be reused or sent to the local landfill.

Quality Control
Paint manufacturers utilize an extensive array of quality control measures.
The ingredients and the manufacturing process undergo stringent tests, and
the finished product is checked to insure that it is of high quality. A finished
paint is inspected for its density, fineness of grind, dispersion, and viscosity.
Paint is then applied to a surface and studied for bleed resistance, rate of
drying, and texture.
In terms of the paint's aesthetic components, color is checked by an
experienced observer and by spectral analysis to see if it matches a standard
desired color. Resistance of the color to fading caused by the elements is
determined by exposing a portion of a painted surface to an arc light and
comparing the amount of fading to a painted surface that was not so
exposed. The paint's hiding power is measured by painting it over a black
surface and a white surface. The ratio of coverage on the black surface to
coverage on the white surface is then determined, with .98 being high-quality
paint. Gloss is measured by determining the amount of reflected light given
off a painted surface.
