I.i Background on Ferry Terminal
The rapid development of civilization, the transition of period
into industrial revolution and the distance of a place to another impart an
idea of transporting products from place to place even after the concept of
train. Ferry terminal naturally came after the idea of ferry were established.
Ferry as known is a boat or ship (a merchant vessel) used to carry (or "ferry")
primarily passengers, and sometimes vehicles and cargo as well, across a
body of water. Most ferries operate on regular, frequent, return services. A
passenger ferry with many stops, such as in Venice, Italy, and in Pasig River,
is sometimes called a water bus or water taxi. Ferry boats often dock at
specialized facilities designed to position the boat for loading and unloading,
called a ferry slip and a barge or deck for passengers in a many stops type of
ferry. Ferry performs a great part in many public transport system with its
speed and availability support people to ease congested traffic and also
showcase the beauty and opportunities in the city.
I.ii Background on the Pasig River Terminal
The Pasig River Ferry Service, was the only water-based
transportation that cruised the Pasig River from Barangay Pinagbuhatan
in Pasig City to Intramuros, Manila. The Pasig River Ferry already had four
ferry service namely the Magsaysay Lines, Starcraft Ferry, Ferry service
inaugurated by former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and the service
presently working operated by the MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development
Authority). Pollution in the Pasig River contributed to the decline in ferry
transport in the river in the 1960s. The Pasig River Ferry Service inaugurated
by former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo superseded the two short-lived
ferry projects in the entire Pasig River in the 1990s. The MMDA had proposed
a revival of the Pasig River ferry service as an alternate mode of public
transport for commuters who will be affected by traffic jams expected to be
generated by the 15 major infrastructure projects across Metro Manila that
will be completed by 2016. The ferry service in pasig River were assumed to
perform a great part in the metro to solve the congested traffic and to take
advantage showing people opportunities along and in the city.
I.iii Background of PUP (Polytechnic University of the Philippines)
terminal
The PUP (Polytechnic University of the Philippines) terminal
or the Sta. Mesa station located at the rear part of the said university. PUP
terminal were the fifth from the terminal station Plaza Mexico in the original
number of station. In the rehabilitation of the ferry service PUP terminal
belong to the initial five number of station on the original number of eleven.
All station were designed air conditioned and have the same design of
structure following a prototype design. Every terminal were had paper
ticketing system but some were specialized having a bar coded paper for the
bar code reader in turnstile and PUP terminal before had this system. Pup
terminal lead way to students of the university for the speed and easy way of
transport to ease traffic jams in the city.
