Determining Whether Polygraph and EDA Measurements Can Reliably Detect Lies Nam Nguyen Arizona State University

This document summarizes an experiment that tested the reliability of polygraph tests in detecting lies. A subject was asked a series of yes or no questions and their heart rate, breathing rate, and electrodermal activity were measured. The results showed little correlation between physiological responses and whether the subject was telling the truth or lying. This supports the hypothesis that polygraph tests cannot reliably differentiate between truthful and deceptive responses. However, the experiment had limitations and more research is needed to fully validate this conclusion.
