Mathematics Olympiad Program at KVS


Becoming Scholar is a matter of being hungry for knowledge. But becoming
talented is a matter of applying that knowledge to gain wisdom to make difference
in the world.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan ,a premier organization in the field of Secondary


and Senior Secondary education and it has specific mission. It has to achieve its
mission of

To pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education;

For last 9 years KVS has been conducting its own Mathematics Olympiad
Programme which is supplemented by Indian National Mathematical
Olympiad (INMO) conducted by NBHM (National Board of Higher
Mathematics), under Deptt of Atomic Energy Govt of India. KVS is nurturing
the talent of students through this programme and students are producing very
good result at National & International Level.

KVS execute schema as under:


Junior Mathematical Olympiad (JMO):
The students of class X who have scored an aggregate of 55% and 60% in Mathematics
in class IX are eligible to appear in JMO.
The JMO is held on first Sunday of September everywhere. About 20,000 students
participate in JMO every year. Out of these participants about 400-500 students are short
listed for certification & awards.
Out of these 500 students first 75 to 100 students are invited for attending coaching camp.
Coaching Camps are held twice in a year for these selected students for a period of one
weak A rigorous training is given to familiarize with INMO problems to the participants
for a week
Though there is no specific syllabus for Olympiad but following topics are covered
during Training.
1 Number Theory
2 Algebra
3 Geometry
4 Combinatorics
In the year 2006, the phase I camp was organized at KV Habble Banglore in autumn
break where 75 participates were invited, 43 turned up.
The second camp was held at KV No 3. Delhi Cantt New Delhi in winter break. 35
participants appeared at phase II camp.
At he end of each camp there was a Group Mathematical Olympiad (GMO) exam for the
Participants. On the basis of performance in both the GMO exams 30 students were
Selected to participate in INMO.
The INMO was held on 4-02-2007. All over India about 650 students participated
in INMO . 34 students selected as INMO Awardees. Out of these 34 students 05
Students were selected from KVS group alone breaking the records. Of KVS One
student Master Rohit Singh has also been invited to participate in IMOTC as senior
participant
Awards:Apart from awards at JMO level; each INMO awardees gets a cash award of
Rs.20000/- from KVS.
Assistance from Olympiad cell:
1.Academic Support:
(a) Orientation of selected and dedicated Post Graduate Teachers from KVs all over India
to further help and guide the students for Maths Olympad
(b) The orientation programme for a week or so ay be held at Bhaskaracharya Pratishthan
in the month of October or December
( c ) Selected useful study material may be sent to KVS for preparation.
(d) During training camps for students the experts from cell may be kind enough to guide
the students of KVs
