The caller advised that Charles A. Tims III was planning on robbing the Walgreen’s on Pontchartrain.
Detective Seuzeneau notified Patrol Officers of the possibility of this subject being in the area of Walgreen’s.
The first to arrive was Patrol Officer Charles Esque. Officer Esque located Tims at the rear door of the
Walgreen’s on Pontchartrain. When Officer Esque approached Tims he had Tims raise his hands in the air. It
was at this time that Officer Esque saw that Tims had a handgun in his waistband. As Officer Jeremy
Bertucci approached Tims to remove the gun Tims attempted to run from Officers. As Tims turned around he
hit a brick wall and fell, allowing Officer Bertucci to deploy his X26 Taser. As Tims attempted to get up and
run Bertucci activated the Taser striking Tims in the chest area. Officers were then able to handcuff Tims and
as they assisted him to his feet he pushed Sergeant Kevin Simon and ran away on foot while handcuffed.
Officers were able to apprehend Tims as he ran across the Cross Gates parking lot.
While being booked Tims became violent and again attempted to escape the Slidell City Jail by
jumping on top of a table near a window with bars that held a computer printer. The weight of Tims on the
table caused the table to collapse damaging the printer. Also during his attempt to escape Tims damaged the
department’s fingerprinting machine. Corrections Officer Albert Davis was able to regain control of Tims
placing him into a holding cell until Tims calmed down.
Detectives learned that Tims was going to rob the Walgreen’s by waiting at the back door for an
employee to open the door and then force the employee back into the store and rob it. The gun recovered was
a silver and black BB pistol.
