3. Draw and extrude something to be machined out. If you want to type your initials, click on the
text icon in sketch mode, and draw a VERTICAL line from Bottom to Top (the text will be slanted
if you draw the line as a slant, the text will be upside own if you draw the line from the top to
the bottom, and oriented 90 degrees if the line is horizontal). Enter your initials in the text
window and press OK. Middle Click to display dimensions. Enter the appropriate values for the
dimensions. Press the check mark to exit sketcher mode. Extrude sketch to 0.25 inches.

6. Go to Insert>Reference Model>Assemble to insert your part model. Select your part and click
Open. Change from automatic constraint to default constraint . Click on the check box. A
dialogue box will pop up. Click ok.

7. Insert the coordinate axis by clicking on the coordinate system button. Select the rightmost
surface, press and hold control, click on the backmost surface and the topmost surface, in that
order. (Note where the top surface is on the figure) Make sure X is point right, Y is point back,
and Z is point up. Flip the coordinate axis from the orientation menu if needed. Click OK when
done.

10. Click on the arrow icon next to Machine Zero and click on the coordinate system that you just
made

11. Click on the arrow next to Surface and type in 0.25. Make sure the retract plane is ABOVE your
part, as shown in the screenshot. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VALUE WILL BE LARGER IF YOU ARE
CLAMPING YOUR PART FROM THE TOP, SINCE THE ENDMILL MUST CLEAR THE CLAMP. Press
OK to set the retract plane, press OK to exit operation setup.

12. Insert the desired machining sequence. We are doing a pocketing sequence for this example.
Click on Steps>Pocketing. On the Menu Manager, click Done. Enter a endmill diameter (choose
from 0.25 inch or 0.125 inch and press Apply. Click OK to go to parameters
13. Enter 30 for cut_feed, half your selected endmill diameter for step_depth and step_over (e.g.
0.0625 or 0.125) Scroll down on the parameter list and enter 0.25 for clear_dist and 10000 for
spindle_speed. Press OK when done.

14. Make sure Model is selected and click on Done. . Make sure Add is selected. Select the
Bottom surface Press and hold control and click on all the associated perpendicular surface.
Press Done/Return when finished. Press Done Seq to exit out of the menu manager.
15. To check your sequence, right click on the sequence, select Play Path . Move the display speed
over to slow and press the play button. Make sure all the surfaces have been machined.

16. If none of the surfaces have been machined, your coordinate system may not be in the right
orientation. You may need to flip your coordinate system (right click on the coordinate system in
the model tree, select edit definition and see step 7 in this tutorial). Otherwise, You may need
to re-select your machining surfaces. To do this, right click on the sequence, and click edit
definition. Select Sequence Setup from the menu manager Click on surfaces and done.
Make sure Model is selected, and click Done. Repeat step 14 for the missing surfaces.
17. If only certain parts of the model is machined and not others, you may of used too large of an
endmill. Select your sequence, right click on edit Definition Click on Sequence Setup. Select
Tool, and Parameter and click on Done. Repeat steps 12 and 13.
18. When everything seems good. You may output your g-code sequence. Click on Edit >CL
Data>Output (You have to scroll all the way down in the edit menu) Click NC Sequence and
click on the desired sequence. Click on File, check the MCD box, click done. Type in a name for
the sequence and press OK

19. Click on the UNCX01.P11 (or whichever is listed first under PP LIST). Press Enter when it asks
for program number. Click Close on the information window. Click Done Output on the menu
manager.

20. Open Notepad from your computer. Click on File>Open, select all files and select your
sequence name file appended with .tap

21. Delete the second, 3rd, and 4th line of the g-code file. Type G90 G20 on the second line, and
G00 Z0.5 on the 3rd line. Make sure the letters are all capitalized. Click File>Save As change file
type to all file. Change extention to .ncd and click Save.

22. Repeat steps 18-21 for all remaining CAM sequences. Remember the size of your endmill, and
where your coordinate axis is, in relation to your part, and remember to bring your file when
you machine out your part.
