Proofex GPX*

Cold applied cross laminated bituminous

waterproofing membrane
Uses

To provide a continuously bonded waterproof membrane for

building and civil engineering structures.
Advantages

n 1.6mm thick (Nominal).

n Cold applied.
n Fast application.
n Uniform thickness of polymer bitumen membrane.
n Good adhesion to primed concrete substrates.
n Produces a continuous waterproof membrane system.
n Cross laminated film for superior performance
n Selvedge enables bitumen to bitumen bond on edge laps.
Description

Proofex GPX is a cold applied self-adhesive sheet membrane

comprising of a polymer modified bitumen layer internally
reinforced with polyester, bonded on to an outer surface of
polyethylene film.
The polymer bitumen adhesive layer is protected on the
underside by a silicone release paper which is removed just
prior to the application of Proofex GPX to the tack coat primed
substrate. A peel-off selvedge strip is provided enabling a
bitumen to bitumen bond at edge laps.

Instructions for use

Surface preparation

The applied membrane is then immediately protected from

UV light and from mechanical damage during subsequent
back filling by the application of Protection Board, or a sand/
cement screed.

Concrete surfaces should be float finished and free from cavities

and projecting nibs. All surfaces shall be dry and free from frost,
surface laitence and contamination.

Specification

Proofex Tack Coat 6HT must be applied to the substrate and allowed
to dry until it is tack free, prior to the application of the membrane.
All surfaces must be re-primed if left for more than 24 hours prior to
the application of Proofex GPX.

The waterproofing membrane shall be a 1.6mm thick self

adhesive sheet membrane comprising of a polymer modified
bitumen layer internally reinforced with polyester, bonded on
to an outer surface of polyethylene film. The polymer modified
bitumen shall have an elongation in excess of 2000% when
tested in accordance with ASTM D412.
Technical support

Proofex GPX

Properties

Fosroc offers a comprehensive technical support service to

specifiers, end users and contractors. It is also able to offer
on-site technical assistance, an AutoCAD facility and
dedicated specification assistance in locations all over the
world.

Priming

Application
Smooth transition should be made at wall/floor slab junctions using
a sand/cement mortar and internal and external corners at walls and
upstands pre-protected with Proofex Corner Pieces prior to the
application of the membrane.
The membrane should be applied to the substrate having first
removed the siliconised release paper, pressing the polyethylene
film firmly ensuring that the adhesive bitumen compound bonds
continuously to the substrate with no air pockets.

Allow at least a 75mm edge and a 150mm end lap. Before

forming edge laps, remove the peel-off selvedge strip from
the previously laid sheet to form a clean, dry bitumen bond.
All laps should be rolled firmly to achieve a good seal. End
laps should be staggered.
On vertical or inclined surfaces, the membrane shall be laid
from the lowest level upwards.

Storage

All products have a shelf life of 12 months if stored in a cool,

dry store, away from sources of heat, in the original unopened
packing. It should be stored horizontally, not more than one
pallet high.
Precautions

The membrane should be protected immediately after application

in accordance with BS 8102:1990 by using Protection Board*,
or as appropriate with a sand/cement screed.

Health and safety

Limitations

If Proofex Tack Coat 6HT is swallowed, do not induce vomiting

- drink a glass of water. If contact with eyes occurs, flood with
copious amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes and
seek medical advice. If on the skin, remove any contaminated
clothing and wash skin thoroughly.

Application temperature range: 5C - 50C.

For application below 15C it may be necessary to slightly
warm the back of the membrane to achieve an immediate
bond. In cold conditions the membrane should be stored at
temperatures above 20C prior to application to facilitate ease
of application and immediate bond to the substrate.
