(Color), Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Music (Scoring of a Musical
Picture, Best Picture, and Best Sound.

 What is the difference between a musical and a drama? – Musicals generally
include singing and dancing. Dramas are generally just acting.

young people from rivaling New York City gangs fall in love.

 When was the Old Globe Theatre built? – The Old Globe Theatre was built in
1576.
 How would the Globe announce their plays? – The Globe would announce the
start of their plays with a trumpet.
 How did the actors get their lines and rehearse? – They generally didn’t. They
would do “cue acting”, which is when a person backstage whispers the lines
to the actors before they go on stage.
 Was William Shakespeare an actor? – Yes, Shakespeare was an actor.
 The Globe audiences were determined in 3 categories…how much did they
pay and where did they sit?
o Groundlings – They would pay 1 penny to stand in the “pit” of the
theatre.
o The Gentry – They would sit in the galleries, usually using the
cushions for their comfort.
o The Rich Nobles – They would sit in chairs set on the side of the stage
itself.
 Is the Globe Theatre still in existence? Why or Why not? – The original Globe
Theatre doesn’t exist. It was burned down in a fire. Another Globe Theatre,
called Globe 2, was rebuilt in its place. The Protestant church then didn’t
allow plays to be held, so they stopped having plays.
 Why do we call it the Old Globe Thearte? – The Old Globe Theatre was
rediscovered sometime during the 20th century, and there is a process of the
reconstruction of a New Globe Theatre near by.
