Installation Notes for SEEFOX M8400

based on Linux CentOS 5.1


LINUX CentOS 5.1 Installation
Start the server and put immediately the first CD (or DVD) in the reader.
The Welcome menu of CENTOS appears automatically on the screen.
Type Enter to start the graphical installation mode. If the graphical mode doesnt starts, try
to get it by rebooting the PC.
Click Skip Button.
If the system asks to test the media, the operation hasnt to be obligatory done.
Select Next at the graphical welcome screen.
Select English as installation language.
Select U.S. International as keyboard.
Select Install CentOS
Select Remove all partitions on selected drives and create default layout.
Click Next -> Yes
Select Network Devices eth0 and eth1, change Hostname manually (ex: cs, cm or poconfig
etc).
Choose region by clicking the map.
Enter Root Password : password.
In the next screen, select all, except [Virtualization], [Clustering] and [Storage
Clustering]. Then click Customize now.
In the next screen, select all options for [Desktop Environments], [Application],
[Development], [Server] and [Base System].
And leave it empty for [Virtualization], [Clustering], [Cluster Storage] and [Language].
Tips : Shift -> Right Click
Click Next to begin installation.
After finished installation, take out CD/DVD CentOS, then click Reboot.

After Reboot, click Forward.


- Firewall : disabled, Forward -> Yes
- SE Linux : disabled, Forward -> Yes
- Kdump : uncheck, Forward
- Date and Time : default, Forward
- Create User : empty, Forward -> Continue
- Sound Card, Forward
- Additional CDs (Do not install), Finish
Enter Username : root
Password : password
LINUX settings (under root user)
Right Click, choose Open Terminal.
Remove the root password (type passwd -d root).

- Hostname : hostname (cm, cs, poconfig, etc..)
- Statically set IP addresses:
a. Address : 10.5.8.xx (depend on hostname)
b. Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Tab Hardware Device
- Uncheck Bind to MAC address
Activate !!
2. Devices eth1
Tab General
- Hostname : hostnameAlt (cmAlt, csAlt, poconfigAlt, etc..)
- Statically set IP addresses:
a. Address : 10.5.9.xx (depend on hostname)
b. Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Tab Hardware Device
- Uncheck Bind to MAC address
Activate !!

1. New :
a. Address : 10.5.8.xx (depend on hostname)
b. Hostname : hostname (cm, cs, poconfigAlt, etc..)
c. Aliases : localhost.localdomain localhost
2. New :
a. Address : 10.5.9.xx (depend on hostname)
b. Hostname : hostnameAlt(cmAlt, csAlt, poconfigAlt, etc..)

3. Add additional host(s) that needed by your system (other computer that connected to
this system)
d. Address : 10.5.9.xx (depend on hostname)

In /etc/sysctl.conf file, put kernel.core_uses_pid = 0

FTP is disabled by default:
It must be activated by removing the a option of the server_args line in /etc/xinetd.d/gssftp
file.
Type cd /etc/init.d in the terminal and activate it by typing ./xinetd restart
type gdmsetup, uncheck deny TCP connection to Xserver

Type xhost + (This instruction have to be done after Linux OS reboot)

SEEFOX M8400 Installation


For this step, the SEEFOX M8400 CD has to be used while being logged in graphically as
root user (if the loginmanager doesnt allows a root login, launch startx by hand).
Make sure there is no root password in this step by type passwd d root and disable access
control by type xhost +.
Insert CD and generally will be mounted automatically or double click on CD Drive. If this
doesnt works, type mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom (or similar command). If this operation is
not working, the server should be restarted.
Double click on file install.sh and SEEFOX M8400 installation window will be appeared. If
this doesnt works, type cd /mnt/cdrom (or similar command) and then type sh ./install.sh.
After SEEFOX M8400 installation window appear, do installation selection in proposed
order (from top to bottom).
1. User Creation (click on Go and wait until OK)
2. Client Installation (click on Go and wait until OK)
3. Program Installation (click on Go and wait until OK)
4. Local Installation (click on Go and wait until OK)
5. Application Installation (click on Go and manually close the following
window after END massage)
6. Binary Installation (click on Go and manually close the following window
after END massage)
7. Exit from SEEFOX M8400 installation
Reboot Operating System (can be done with command reboot in terminal)
After system reboot, in User Login (username), type lynx.
Go to terminal (Right Click, choose Open Terminal). First of all, type xhost + (remember to
do this step after Operating System reboot).
As Lynx user, type chmod 0644 /usr/users/lynx/.dmrc

As root (type su), type:


- cp /root/.bashrc /usr/users/lynx
- chown lynx /usr/users/lynx/.bashrc
- chmod 0744 /usr/users/lynx
Back to Lynx user (type exit or press ctrl+d) and edit file /usr/users/lynx/.bashrc (hidden file,
please use: view>marked hidden file) with add line . ~/.profile (press space and/or enter
before exit)
