The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah has called on the public to
reject religious extremism, specifically naming the Islamic State (IS) terror group. He
welcomed the continued efforts to strengthen security and public order especially with regard
to the threat of insurgents in Sabah, and to curb the spread of extremism, such as militant
activities of the Islamic State (IS). In your opinion, how would extremism affect the national
unity in Malaysia? Explain the effects of extremism towards national unity.

INTRODUCTION
Extremism is beliefs that most people think are unreasonable and unacceptable.
For example, 911 and MBPJ classifies Taman Medan church as illegal is the cases of
religious extremism that happened in global and domestic country.

Trespass the Civil Rights of Other Races
- Religious freedom will be challenge.
(Minority vs Majority Religious)
- Eg. (April 2015) In one high-profile
incident, demostrators in Taman Medan,
Petaling Jaya demanded that Christians
remove a cross from the exterior of their
church and the cross was removed.
- They claimed it challenged Islam in the
Muslim-majority area and could influence
younger minds.

Racial Discrimination
- Bumiputeralism continues to be
convenient ideological tool to buy over
the Malay voter in the capital
accumulation by the ruling class.
- This has been the function of racism and
racial discrimination in facilitating the
capital accumulation by this ruling class
in Malaysia.

Greater Threat to Country (From
Extremism to Terrorism)
- Eg. Islamic State of Iraq and
the Levant (ISIL) is a grave threat to
international peace and security.
- People are particularly subject to
systemic abuses rape, kidnapping,
forced marriage, and sexual slavery.
Extremist (Social Media)
- Insensitive remarks given in the social
media attack other race.
- Eg. Argriculture Minister Ismail Sabri
Yaakob called on Malay to boycott
Chinese trader racism remarks through
his facebook page.
CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATION

National Unity
- The minority religious will feel that
they are not to be respected as the
cross is the symbol of Christian
faith, likewise the crescent is the
symbol of Islam.
- It will put apart the relationship
between the races which has their
difference religion because of the
unacceptable of other religion.
- Minority group or races will feel
unfair cause them feel
uncomfortable to that race with
have get the benefits which they
cannot get one, so that it will affect
the national unity of difference
races.
- Influence and misleading the
teenagers mind. For example, IS
Ideology (extremism & violence)
carry out terrorism acts.
- This will cause the other race refuse
to trust and believe the Muslim or
Islam friend and be far away from
them.

- The intention to caused racial hatred


may be occured to breakdown the
national unity in Malaysia.
- Public statements on the boycott
issue has hurt the countrys racial
harmony.

Extremism will destroy the image, peace, harmony and national unity of Malaysia.

School teachers especially Pendidikan Islam and Pendidikan Moral should instill the
right value to the young generation as proverb said: wisdom in the mind is better than
money in the hand.
