Labour council threatens to end weekly bin

collections in H&F
SIGN THE PETITION TO STOP LABOUR REDUCING THE
FREQUENCY OF BIN COLLECTIONS >>
Weekly bin collections are under threat in Hammersmith and Fulham
after the Labour-run council launched a consultation into reducing
refuse collections and street cleaning.
The consultation has been quietly uploaded onto the councils website
but no additional effort has been made to increase awareness of the
plans among local residents. The councils own papers relating to the
consultation state: It is evident that with the financial reductions that
are due over the next few years, there will be a further challenge to
maintain services.
The local Conservatives are extremely concerned that the council has
already made up its mind and will push ahead with plans to reduce bin
collections and street cleaning in an attempt to save money.
Local Conservative Council Group Leader, Cllr Greg Smith said:
Residents are already angry about the decline in street cleanliness in
H&F fly-tipping is rife and many roads are extremely untidy. Now we
find out that the council is consulting on removing weekly bins
collections in one of the most densely populated parts of London. The
consequences would be dire with piles of stinking rubbish attracting
rats, foxes and disease.
It is a core function of a council to collect rubbish and clean the
streets and they should be looking to improve the service, not reduce
it. The Conservatives will stand up for local residents and fight these
plans every step of the way. I urge everyone to sign our online petition
so we can demonstrate the strength of feeling to the local Labour
council.
In order to show the strength of public feeling against Labours plan to
reducing the frequency of bin collections in Hammersmith & Fulham,
please add your name and email address to the petition form on this
website - www.saveourbins.com.

Greg Hands welcomes recent Crossrail 2

Chelsea Public Meeting

Greg Hands welcomes the most

recent public meeting to discuss
the prospect of Crossrail 2 in
Chelsea & Fulham, as allowing
more opportunity for key issues
to be aired and residents to be
able to quiz the promoters of
the scheme.

On Tuesday, 3 November, the Royal Borough of Kensington &

Chelsea (RBKC) held a public meeting at Chelsea Old Town Hall to
coincide with Transport for Londons (TfL) newest consultation on
Crossrail 2. Speaking at the public meeting were Cllr Tim Coleridge,
RBKC Cabinet Member for Planning Policy, Transport and Arts; Ms
Michle Dix, Director of Crossrail 2; and Mr Chris Lenon, Chair of the
No Crossrail in Chelsea campaign.

The three speakers provided a range of views on the Crossrail 2

station proposed for the Kings Road, and the meeting contributed to
informing local residents as part of TfLs current consultation on the
project. Indeed, the meeting proved incredibly popular, and not only
was Chelsea Old Town Hall full, but many people were not even able
to enter. The Royal Boroughs statement can be found here.

Greg Hands, Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham, was

pleased to hear that both Chris Lenon and Cllr Robert Largan,
Conservative ward councillor for Sands End at Hammersmith &
Fulham Council, reminded the 500-strong audience of his invitation for
views in response to the Mayor of Londons feasibility study into
alternative Crossrail 2 station sites at either Imperial Wharf or Fulham
Broadway.

Speaking after the event, Greg Hands said: I would like to thank the
Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea for organising this meeting at
Chelsea Old Town Hall, and for enabling stakeholders and residents
from both sides of the debate to make their case in a public forum.

Unfortunately I wasnt able to attend the public meeting, due to

Government business elsewhere, but I had a representative there who
listened closely to the views expressed. Im pleased that more people
got to hear about the feasibility study that I requested from the Mayor
of London to consider an alternative Crossrail 2 station either at
Imperial Wharf or Fulham Broadway.

As a longstanding support of Crossrail 2 coming to my constituency in

general, Im keen to hear local residents views on a Crossrail 2 station
coming to Chelsea & Fulham. Would residents prefer a station at
Crossrail 2s preferred site on the Kings Road, at Imperial Wharf or
Fulham Broadway? Or not at all?

TfLs consultation on Crossrail 2 can be found here, and details on

their proposals for a station on the Kings Road can be found here.

To request a copy of the Mayors feasibility study and to convey your

views, please contact Gregs office at [email protected] or 020

Greg Hands goes back to college at

Kensington and Chelsea College

Greg Hands at this week's visit to the Hortensia Road, Chelsea,

campus of the Kensington & Chelsea College this week, with
Chief Executive Mark Brickley and Chairman of Governors
Naraindra Maharaj.

On Friday, 6 November, Greg Hands returned to Kensington and

Chelsea College for a further meeting with the Principal.
When the House of Commons is not sitting, it is customary for
Members of Parliament to spend Fridays out and about in their
constituencies, and this Friday was no different for Greg Hands,
Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham. In addition to holding his
regular constituency surgery at Fulham Library, Greg returned to
Kensington and Chelsea College for a meeting with Chief Executive
Officer and Principal, Mr Mark Brickley, and Mr Naraindra Maharaj,
chairman of governors of the College.
Kensington and Chelsea College is a Further Education establishment
with two main sites, one in Hortensia Road, Chelsea, and the other in
Wormington Road in Kensington. The College offers a wide range of
academic and vocational courses and extensive support services, not
only for 16-18 year olds, but also for adult learners.
Over the past year, students from Kensington and Chelsea College
have won national awards, taken part in public exhibitions, and even
sold their designs in Fenwick and Fortnum and Mason, for example.
The College also has an apprenticeship programme, which has seen
students trained by the V&A Museum, Historic Royal Palaces, and
Hemingway Design, among other prestigious employers.
Greg Hands was invited to visit the College again in part to discuss
the recent announcement of its proposals for forming a strategic
alliance with the City of Westminster College and the College of North
West London in an effort to deliver the highest quality education and
training opportunities for students.
Speaking after this visit, Greg Hands said: I would like to thank
Principal Mark Brickley for inviting me back to Kensington and
Chelsea College, and Im pleased to see their continued excellence in
areas such as fashion and millinery, as well as progress being made in
other areas since my last visit in February. In fact, I was amazed to
find out that people like Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie have worn
clothes designed by students in my constituency of Chelsea & Fulham.
In particular, however, I was interested to hear of the Colleges plans
for forming a strategic partnership with the City of Westminster
College and the College of North West London, as well as Mr
Brickleys efforts to forge international partnerships. I look forward to
visiting the College again in the future.

Police called after travellers move onto

Super Sewer site in Fulham
from getwestlondon
Thursday 5th November 2015
Thames Water is to start legal proceedings to eject travellers who
moved onto its land in Fulham this week.
Thames Water described it as an illegal occupation.
People living on the riverside road have received a letter from utility
company's delivery manager Steve Wilkinson which read: You may
be aware that yesterday evening a number of people gained entry to
our site and have taken up an illegal occupation. I wanted to let you
know that we have been in contact with the police and are starting
legal proceedings to evict the occupiers.
Police were called to the road at 9.40pm to reports of caravans
entering a site without permission.
However, it had no powers to move the occupants on as the land is
privately owned.
A resident of Carnwath Road , who asked not to be named, said: Its
a large number and it looks like theyre settling down to stay. Its a
sizable community and they moved in literally within half-an-hour.
Theyre not being disruptive, but their dogs are barking and their
generators are quite noisy.
Because Thames Water have fenced off the site you cant see them,
but they have barricaded themselves in the compound.
In a statement given to the Getwestlondon , Thames Water said: A
group of unidentified people broke into our Thames Tideway Tunnel
construction site at Carnwath Road on Tuesday night (Nov 3) and are
now occupying it illegally.
We are talking to the police and will be starting legal proceedings to
evict the occupiers.
Greg Hands MP said: I am very concerned to learn of this sudden
occupation, and have been in constant touch with Thames Water as to
what they plant to do next. Meanwhile, the Labour Council needs to do
much better in ensuring that environmental and noise regulations are
respected and local residents protected from any disturbance,
particularly by noisy generators at night. My overriding concern here is
that local, Fulham residents are protected.
