Monday 9th November

Lord Mayors visit
We are very excited to be
welcoming the Right Worshipful the
Lord Mayor of Chester to school on
Monday afternoon. The Lord Mayor
will meet the children in assembly,
tour the school and take afternoon
tea with the School Council - more
about this in the next newsletter!

Today is National Roast Dinner Day (Im not making it up!).

We enjoyed our roast gammon lunch today - especially the
roast parsnips. School lunches are free for the infant children
and only 2.20 a day for everyone else.

Thoughts from the week

We finished our half term o with a
very informative evening English
workshop for parents of Reception
and KS1 children focussing on the
way that reading and phonics is taught
from Reception through to Year 2. It
really was a whistle-stop tour through
all the aspects of reading (we could
have spent days talking about it, but
squeezed into one and a half hours!),
but we hope it helps you to get a
better understanding of the
expectations for our younger children.
In response to some of the feedback,
Mrs Atkinson would like to oer her
Year 1 parents further information
about phonics teaching and how her
children will be assessed at the end of
the year.
Year 1 parents are invited to school on
Wednesday 2nd December at 3.30pm.
Mrs Atkinson will write to Year 1
parents with more information.

KS2 (Years 3-6) parents: please save

Monday 23rd November at 7.00pm
to come to our English evening
workshop. This too is promising to be
a very informative evening for you as
a means of helping your childs
writing.
This term is always a very exciting
one for the children with the run up to
Christmas. I am sure you are again
looking forward to watching your
children in the Reception/KS1
production later this term. This year,
the Year 5 and Year 6 children will be
leading a carol service in church at
the end of term.

Individual and sibling
photographs
If you would like any pre-school
children to have their photos taken
with brothers and sisters, please
come to the school hall from
8.30am. Proofs should be sent
home the same day for you to make
your choices from.

Wednesday 18th and

Thursday 19th
November
Our first parents evenings in
the year.
Booking is now open for the
parents evenings. I was trying to
organise a new booking system to
make this easier for you, but this
unfortunately wasnt quite ready for
this time. Please continue to use the
Wiki on the school website to make
your booking, or contact the school
oce to make your booking.
I will be available during the
parents evenings if you would like
to speak to me about any school
matter. I will be happy to meet with
you.

School news
School Kitchen
Mrs Evans, our school cook, retired
at the end of last half term and we
wish her well as she spends more
time with her growing family.
I will be working with Cheshire West
Catering Services in the coming
weeks to interview a new cook who
will work in our school.
Remembrance Day
As a school, we believe it is very
important for our children to
remember and reflect upon the
sacrifice that so many people have
made for our
country during
the World Wars
and other recent
conflicts. On
11th November,
we will be taking
some time in the
classrooms to
pause and reflect. We hope that we
have your support in this.
Poppies are available for sale in
school this week and next week.
Please send some money in with
your children if you would like them
to support this charity.
Chess Club
This is now open to all children in
KS2 (Years 3-6). Please sign up in
the school oce. This club will be
on this Friday (6th) and for the next
two Fridays (13th and 20th) from
3.20pm until 4.00pm.

PTA
Many thanks to the PTA team for
the excellent Halloween Disco - we
had nearly every child from the
school at the disco with some
wonderful costumes and scary
faces! The children really enjoyed
our new and improved disco
winning lots of prizes with their
wonderful dancing!
Thank you for battling through the
busy trac and parking to get to
the event. We would normally open
the playground for busy events to
increase our parking capacity, but it
becomes too dangerous at night
when cars and pedestrians are
crossing at the same point.
The PTA team are now working
very hard behind the scenes to
prepare for the Christmas Fair.
This will be held in school on Friday
4th December from 5.00pm.
The week before this (Friday 27th
November), children are invited
once again to come to a film night.
We will have four dierent DVDs
playing for children to choose from.
We will serve biscuits and drinks
half way through the film. This is
normally a well attended event and
I also know that many parents
appreciate an extra hour or so of
time without children for shopping,
etc at this busy time of the year.

Art and Author Workshops

We are delighted to welcome an artist, Mrs Roberts to
school this week who is working with over 90 children
in Years 1, 2 and 5 to produce some art work for our
school hall. This should be on display in the hall during
parents evenings week for you to enjoy. The theme of
the art is
diversity and
Britishness these are two
very dicult
areas for
children to
understand,
but ones that
we are
required to

Governor of the Month

The school governors would like
to further raise their profile in the
school and inform you of the work
that they undertake to make our
school a better learning
environment.
Each month this year, there will be
two governors who will visit
school and create a short report
on the school website. This
month, Mrs Sandra Prest and Mr
Iain Pemberton will be our
governors of the month. We look
forward to welcoming them into
school.
Parent Governors
We would like to welcome Mrs
Emily Eland to the governing
body. Mrs Eland is mum to India in
Reception.
We also need to say thank you
and goodbye to Mrs Heidi Davies
who has had to step down from
her position as parent governor
due to other commitments. Thank
you for the support you have
given the school over the past
year and a half, Heidi.
This leaves another position as
parent governor - please call into
school if you would like more
information about this role.

teach to our
children. Through
the art and
discussions around
it, we hope to
explore these
themes as well as
enjoying the
creativity that Mrs
Roberts brings to
the school.
At the beginning of the week, the author Rachel
Lindsay worked with children in Years 3 and 4. She
explored some of the rich language in her own books
about trolls. These workshops have really inspired the
children with their own writing and creativity skills. We
look forward to reading their stories as the next few
weeks progress.
