Introduction
Most oil- producing wells , at some time during their economic life, will
require some kind of artificial lift to supplement reservoir energy to
raise the fluid to the surface and obtain the maximum recovery of oil for
maximum profit to the producer.
Sucker rod pumping is by far the most commonly used method of
artificial lift. It accounts for approximately 80% of all artificial lift wells in
the United States. The Standard Beam Pumping Unit has become a
symbol of oil production.
But even if this system is as old as the oil industry itself, little progress
has been achieved in the attempt to avoid the operational and
functional inadequacies of the system.
