COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This practical laboratory course introduces the students to industry standard techniques with
respects to equipment types, working principles, installation and interconnection. The students
will be exposed to industry standards such as network device functions, device deployment,
network interconnection, cable and connector types, cable management, power distribution,
racking systems, equipment stands and RF interference within racks.
ESSENTIAL EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS:
As mandated by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities essential employability skills
(EES) will be addressed throughout all programs of study. Students will have the opportunity to learn

Install and configure a variety of network equipments.


Implement and test LAN and WAN network topologies.
Explain the working principles data link layer and network layer equipment.
Differentiate physical addressing and logical addressing.
Demonstrate TCP/IP protocols and services in SOHO and SMB network designs.
Describe the basic working principles of security device in small network domains.
Use cable testers and network analyzers to troubleshoot network device connectivity issues.
Examine CAT cabling standards at levels 1 through 6. Construct and maintain network
cables following industry standards.
9. Explain Fiber Optic cable standards and interconnection technologies.
DELIVERY METHODS / LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
The instructional methods of this course are comprised of class lectures using high quality multi
media projection system, lecture-demonstration, lecture-discussion, hands-on lab exercises, and
project assignments.
