FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS

FMZ 5000

Fire alarm panels are mandatory for many construction projects

like safety belts in your car both protect life and existence.

Seat belts have been compulsory for the past 30 years

and led to many innovations, such as the airbag and
sidebag.
At first, the seat belt was a relatively uncomfortable
safety device. But the development of heightadjustable belts with automatic tighteners resulted in
a very flexible and effective restraint system featuring
high comfort and safety. What began as an obligation
was refined and widely accepted. Ensuring health,
future compliance and comfort comes first. The same
development from simple to complex also applies
to fire detection and alarm systems from Minimax.

Minimax has been designing and build ing fire alarm panels for over 30 years.
The heart of the newest generation the FMZ 5000 is the redundant central card as an intelligent control system for maximum
safety. It goes without saying that the new technology with freely
programmable controls and few different operating modules
fulfils the requirements of DIN EN 54 Parts 2 and 4 as well as

of flexibility in order to create efficient work-flows. Never before

has it been so easy to change complex structures so quickly
via programming alone and with just a few snap-in modules.

DIN EN 12094 Part 1. Flexibility and easy adaptation to increasingly frequent changes in operational requirements are important
factors. The FMZ 5000 can easily be adapted to a wide range of
requirements. Of course, this process is not yet fully automatic
but it is very fast and easy. Users of a building need this kind

for all your needs

Hardware structure of the fire alarm panel

Functions
There are lines for detectors which signal an alarm by
increasing the current (conventional detectors). All
conventional Minimax detectors can be connected. These
include smoke and heat detectors for normal conditions
and all industrial fire detectors. The latter include heat,
flame and CO conflagration gas detectors, in addition
to manual alarms with many individual housings and
designs for various uses.

Loop couplers enable connection to all conventional

detectors, including industrial alarms.

FMZ 5000 one model for all tasks

Due to the configurable line voltage of 9 V to 20 V,

detectors from other manufacturers can also be used.

Equipment monitored directly via the fire alarm panel,

e.g. extinguishing systems or alarm systems, can be
activated.

The user purchases only what he needs since expansion

to any size is possible at any time without additional
wiring. Space should be reserved, however, for modules
to be added at a later time. This saves both money and
space.
In the event of changes in processes or use, or in case
retrofitting becomes necessary, the new function can
be adapted directly on the premises of the FMZ 5000
customer quickly and at low cost.

S N A P

The FMZ 5000 fire alarm panel

Two standard sizes are available, the small mod 4 and the
mid-sized mod 12. The front panels of the mod 12 enable
even large expansions in 19" housings. Only the outer
shell size is permanent, while the interior workings
remain fully flexible. The basic hardware is strikingly well
designed, with high functionality. The housing of the
mod 4 is also suitable for installation in a console or wall
mounting.

Identical modules are used for mod 4 and mod 12 to

implement a wide variety of projects. Before the fire
alarm panel can process the special tasks of a particular project, it is configured via the computer with the
necessary information for the project. All fire alarm
panels, small and large, consist of the same modules.
This minimises the storage of spare parts for service and
set-up personnel. Less is more. Our modules are very
efficient, highly flexible and easy to understand. They can
be used to configure straightforward fire detection
systems or combined fire detection and extinguishing
control panels.

The FMZ 5000 mod 12 features high flexibility for total

freedom of expansion in a 19" housing.

FMZ 5000

Up to 126 addressable points can be connected and

operated on the detector loops: fire detectors for smoke,
heat and flames, in addition to manual alarms. But they
can also be input or output modules for monitoring,
controls or horns.
Stub lines for up to 32 detectors can be connected to the
loop.
On each loop, addressable points and devices can be
supplied with a current of up to 200 mA.
The maximum length of the loop is 2,000 m and it can be
installed with a normal J-Y(ST)Y 0.8 mm fire alarm cable.
Horns on the loop are either independent units or they
are located in the base of a detector; they are supplied
by the loop and need no separate power supply.

Input modules on the loop can be used for monitoring,

e.g. extinguishing systems.
Output modules on the loop can be used for controls and
activations (including monitoring the supply line to the
connected device).

Two monitored activations for transmission units are

provided for calling the fire brigade or a service company.
Non-monitored controls can be implemented by means
of relay modules.
Up to 32 fire alarm panels and control units can be
networked in a ring. In this configuration, all fire alarm
panels can be operated from one or more locations and
all messages are displayed either centrally or at multiple
locations.
A standardised interface for danger warning systems
for notification of control centres and for operation from
the control centres to the fire alarm panels is provided.

Horns are addressable on the alarm loop and can be

controlled individually or synchronised as a group for
a uniform alarm tone.

Customer advantages

All messages from detectors, groups, etc. can be freely

defined: what should be reported, the message text,
group number, and corresponding single/collective
LEDs. All logical and time-dependent links between
the messages and the related actions can be freely
defined. For functions such as blocking, revision and
shutdown, one can easily connect
key-operated switches or program
buttons on the front panel.

Easy, menu-controlled user interface with soft keys.

Maximum information at a glance due to the large,
clear layout of the full-graphic display.

No matter what the requirements of a

project, the FMZ 5000 can provide the solution.
This is made possible by the high modularity of
the hardware and the flexibility of the software
PLC, together with the graphic configuration.

The same applies to extensions in the customers building.

The fire alarm panel can largely be adapted to the
growing requirements by means of SNAP AND GO
technology.

The clear structure of the new technology facilitates planning and set-up of the project configuration. Instead of having to choose from many
options, specific project tasks can be solved with
only one fire alarm panel and
the combination of just a few
modules.

Low training requirements due to ease of operation.

If rooms or buildings are reallocated for new uses, the
fire alarm panel can easily be adapted without rewiring,
due to the flexibility of the modules. Many of the changes
can be implemented by adapting the configuration.

Since industrial detectors can also be connected to

detector loops via loop couplers, all industrial requirements can be fulfilled.
The FMZ 5000 is a combined fire detection and extinguishing control panel, meaning all fire alarm and
extinguishing tasks can be controlled from a single fire
alarm panel.
All tasks and all requirements can be implemented.

SNAP AND GO! All you have

to do is plug in the modules,
with no wiring in the
alarm panel,

by means of plug-in terminals on the module housing. A
fire brigade control panel and key depot can easily be
connected via a 20-pin ribbon cable and a plug contact.
An RTU can be connected to the FMZ 5000 control panel
on a TS35 mounting rail (top hat rail) in any module

position. The module is automatically connected with

the power supply and the data bus by means of contacts
on the bottom of the housing when they are pushed
together. No wiring is required within the control panel
for the module. The release voltage for both outputs is
24 Vdc.
The module is configured via a computer with the configuration program MxSysCon. The configuration data is
downloaded to the fire alarm panel via serial download.

FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS

FIRE ALARM PANELS

FMZ 5000
Reflex module

 Product

Application

 The reflex module offers all

functions for 2 extinguishing
zones where very fast fire
detection and instantaneous
extinction are of particular
importance.
 All components are available for
use in each single extinguishing
zone of the reflex module as well
as between modules for the
formation of complex controls.
2 detector lines for each 8 spark
detectors or 4 flame detectors.
 2 transmission lines for activating
and monitoring a maximum of
3 valves each.
4 lines to monitor the condition
of each valve unit and the
extinguishing process.
All detector, control and monitoring lines are monitored for wire
breaks and short circuits. The
detectors also report possible
malfunctions after performing
a self-test.

+ Benefits
 The reflex module is essential
where pneumatic conveyors are
involved and in areas subject to
the risk of rapidly spreading fires.
 Pneumatic material conveyors are
at risk from flying sparks or glowing embers. Spark detectors in
various models can reliably spot
sparks and sources of fires the
extinguishing process is triggered
almost immediately.
Alternatively or in addition to the
extinguishing process, combustible
material can be ejected from the
transport system without delay.
In ESTA paint shops flames caused
by high voltage flashovers are
extinguished immediately by cutting off the supply of paint and
applying extinguishing agents
through the paint spray nozzles.
 Flame detectors in machine tools
cabinets monitor the material
processing and the cooling agent.

Complete protection of your plant

through the safe and most rapid fire
detection, combined with the greatest
possible safety of the extinguishing
triggers.

+ Individual configuration for each

project: detectors, detector groups,

extinguishing valves, extinguishing
controls and extinguishing monitoring
as well responses to flying sparks.

+ Adapted production interventions

by evaluating of flying sparks and

extinguishing: a continuous series of
sparks, exceeding a defined number
of flying sparks or the average value
per unit of time, unacceptably long
extinguishing time.

+ Precise monitoring of the supply lines

and equipment: the smallest possible

deviations are hereby recognised, thus
guaranteeing safe operations at all
times.

+ Displaying and recording the instant

that fire is detected and extinguished

accurate to the millisecond: fire events
can be reproduced precisely and
effective measures carried out.

FIRE ALARM PANELS

FMZ 5000
Spark test module

 Product

Application

+ Benefits

 Materials transported in the duct

system can leave sediments on the
detector optics or cause damage
to them.

Typical areas of application:

The spark test module in conjunction with the test light

monitors spark detector performance during ongoing operations.

 Foodstuffs/automotive industry

The test actuator is mounted on

the pipe wall located opposite the
spark detector. The performance
of the optics and the detectors
detection effectivity is verified by
detecting a simulated spark from
the test actuator.
