.: Introduction
As far as add-ons for Duke Nukem 3D go, there are 3 populair ones namely "Duke it out in
D.C.", "Duke in Caribbean" and "Duke Nuclear Winter". Making these add-ons run in
combination with eDuke32 isn't very difficult but requires some of your precious time.
Also, it's possible to have all necessary files of these four add-ons in the same Duke3Dinstallation withouth screwing up your installations. Using five different shortcuts (one for the
regular Duke3D and the four other for each of the add-ons) you're able to play them without
much hassle.
Some of the following instructions are based on the explenations of NightFright,
he has a site about the HRP Update-pack and the HRP-pack for Duke it out in D.C.
A good bookmarktip.

.: Preperations
For the mention instructions are three programs required. The first two can be located on your
Duke3D cd in the directory "goodies/build/". The two programs are called "kgroup.exe" and
"kextract.exe".
The third one can be downloaded from JonoF's site. The program are called "unpackssi". You
do not need this tool for Duke Nuclear Winter and Duke!Zone.
Copy these three files to the map where you have eDuke32 installed.

.: Duke in Caribbean; Life's a beach

1. Go hunt down your cd of the add-on and copy the file "VACA15.SSI" from the directory
"CARIBBEA/VACATION/" to a new directory in your Duke3D-folder. (Folder must be empty!)
2. Copy the program "unpackssi.exe" to the same folder where you have placed the .ssi-file.
3. Make a shortcut of the program "unpackssi.exe" and rightclick on the icon, go to
"Properties".
4. Open the tabrecord "Shortcut" and add at the end of the fieldvalue of "Target" the
startparameters "-unpackssi vaca15.ssi *.*".
5. Run the program and it should unpack all files inside vaca15.ssi.
6. Run "Carib.exe" and choose "Single player".
The program will rename all files to their correct file-extension but won't launch since you don't
have Duke3D installed in this map.
7. Delete "Carib.exe". It's useless now.
8. Copy the program "kextract.exe" to the directory where all of the Caribbean-files are.
9. Make a shortcut of the program "kextract.exe" and rightclick on the icon, go to "Properties"
(Just keep the shortcut in your current folder).
10. Open the tabrecord "Program" and add at the end of the fieldvalue of "Commandline" the
startparameters "kextract vacation.grp *.*".
11. Run the program and it should unpack all files inside vacation.grp.
12. Move "kextract.exe" out of the folder since it shouldn't be packed into the .grp you're
gonna make now. Don't forget to move out vacation.grp as well, you don't wanna have a
double sized .grp-file, right?
Now you'll be needing "kgroup.exe" to pack all Caribbean-files back into one .grp-file. The files
needed are the ones you've just took out of the vacation.grp and the other ones such as
.con, .scp, and .dmo-files.
13. Make a shortcut of "kgroup.exe", keep it in the same folder as the program.
14. Give it the startparameter "kgroup caribbean.grp *.*". Detailed instructions about this
were given in step 3. But ofcourse you can give the new .grp-file any other name you like.
15. Start up the shortcut and it should start assembling the new .grp-file. It will probably just
take a couple of seconds.
16. Move this new .grp-file to the directory where your jfDuke3D has been installed.
17. Make a shortcut of "eduke32.exe" and place it anywhere you like (desktop for example).
18. Give the shortcut the startparameter "/gcaribbean.grp", assuming that your new .grp-file
for Duke Nukem in Caribbean is called "caribbean.grp" like in step 13.
19. You're done. Make sure you read the last paragraph of this page called "Final notes".

.: Duke it out in D.C.

1. From the directory "DUKEDC/" on the original installationcd of Duke it out in D.C.
copy the file "DUKEDCPP.SSI" to a new directory in you Duke3D-folder.
2. Copy the program "unpackssi.exe" to the same folder where you have placed the .ssi-file.
3. Make a shortcut of the program "unpackssi.exe" and rightclick on the icon, go to
"Properties".
4. Open the tabrecord "Shortcut" and add at the end of the fieldvalue of "Target" the
startparameters "-unpackssi dukedcpp.ssi *.*".
5. Run the program and it should unpack all files inside DUKEDCPP.SSI.
6. Delete "DUKEDCPP.SSI" since it's useless now. The program "unpackssi.exe" is also no
longer necessary.
7. Copy the program "kgroup.exe" to the directory with the unpacked files from
DUKEDCPP.SSI.
8. Make a shortcut of it, rightclick on it and go to "Properties".
9. Open the tabrecord "Program" and fill in at the end of the fieldvalue of "Commandline" the
startparameters "kgroup dukedc.grp *.*".
10. Launch the program through the shortcut and it should start assembling the new .grp-file
called "dukedc.grp" in this case, but you can give it any name you want.
11. Put the new .grp-file in the default directory of Duke3D.
12. Make a shortcut of "duke3d.exe" and place it anywhere you like (desktop for example).
13. Give the shortcut the startparameter "/gdukedc.grp", assuming that your new .grp-file for
Duke it out in D.C. is called "dukedc.grp" like in step 9.
14. You're done. Make sure you read the last paragraph of this page called "Final notes".

.: Duke Nuclear Winter

1. Open up the directory "GAMEDATA" of the installation-cd and copy the file "NWINTER.GRP"
to the directory where Duke3D is installed.
2. Make a new shortcut of the program "duke3d.exe" and place it anywhere you like (your
desktop for example).
Safest thing is to rename the shortcut to something like "Duke3D - Nuclear Winter" because
you can only play Nuclear Winter with this shortcut.
3. Now rightclick on the shortcut and choose "Properties". The tabrecord "Shortcut" should be
open by default.
4. Add behind the content of the field "Target" the following parameters "/xnwinter.con
/gnwinter.grp".

.: Final notes
Now that you've got a single .zip-file for each of the mentioned add-ons it's important to know
that none of them will really work unless you don't have a "user.con"-file in your default
Duke3D-directory. Just rename the file to something like "use.con" (by that disabling the file)
and the game will not make use of the standard user.con-file but the specific ones you need
inside their .grp-file. (You can also have several directories with the JonoFport in it just for one
add-on but that's up to you.)
Running these add-ons with the High Resolution Pack could give trouble when the add-on
replaces textures in Duke3D.
