03RD /4TH OCTOBER 2015

TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Parishioners,
In our first reading today from the Book of Genesis, we hear of the story of Gods
creation. God creates man and woman equal. It is the story of human longing for
companionship in life.
In St Marks Gospel, we see Jesus answering the Pharisees on the question of
divorce. In some cases, a man could divorce his wife for the simplest of reasons if she
didnt cook his dinner properly! Jesus is reminding the Pharisees that this was not
Gods plan from the beginning. It was because men were so unteachable that the law
of divorce was changed and man-made. What God has united, man must not divide;
this was the original plan.
In the midst of the divorce controversy, we mustnt lose sight of Jesus welcoming
the children. We are all children of God. Hence the beautiful scene: He put his arms
round them, laid his hands on them and gave them his blessing.
THE SYNOD IN ROME ON MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE begins today. Much
has been said to date and questionnaires have been filled in on this topic. The question
in todays gospel has been one of the items on the agenda about divorce; remarriage
and their standing within the church we pray for the Cardinals and Bishops who are
discussing these matters that the Holy Spirit will be their guide for the good of all Gods
people.
SIGNING SCHOOL APPLICATION FORMS: At the meeting on Wednesday last at
Vaughan House, it was decided that the New Form is in place.
Its a Yes or No proposal by the priest to sign or not to sign that this is a practising
Catholic family. No shades of grey are allowed this makes for very difficult
decisions. Hence the SEL-ASSESSMENT form, personal to the priest is vital. Please take
one today and bring it along with you at the time of signing. This time you would have
indicated on the clipboard at the back of the church.
JUSTICE AND PEACE ANNUAL DAY: Is Saturday 17th October on the subject of
Climate Change. We have Fr Sean McDonagh as a main guest speaker and others who
will contribute on the topic of Laudat Si our challenge to Live Simply the Parish
Conference next month It would be great if parishioners would avail of such speakers
on our doorstep. The subject is so vital as we look at ways to care for our common
Home as Pope Francis puts it. Please sign up for this event.
Thats all for this week, God bless.

Fr Joe

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
