Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. (Eph. 6:10)
• we are in Christ and are one with Him. His life is our life, His power our power,
His truth our truth, His way our way, and, as Paul goes on to say here,
His strength is our strength.
The Lord’s strength is always more than sufficient for the battle.
1
He was affirming that even a little power was enough to preserve them, because it
was the Lord’s supernatural power. Our own strength is never strong enough to oppose
Satan, but when we are strong in the Lord, even a little of His strength is sufficient to
win any battle.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me,” Paul said (Phil.
4:13).
It is not the amount of the strength we have that is important—only its source.
The Lord is much stronger than the devil. All power belongs to God!
Paul warned the elders from Ephesus, “I know that after my departure savage wolves
will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will
arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them” (Acts 20:29-30).
The letters of the Lord to the seven churches of Asia Minor, the first of which was to
the church at Ephesus, will assist us in understanding how Satan attacks the church.
Those seven historical churches were prototypes of churches that have existed
through the centuries since that time.
2
The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the
seven golden lampstands, says this:
2
‘I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil
men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and
you found them to be false; 3and you have perseverance and have endured for My
name’s sake, and have not grown weary. 4‘But I have this against you, that you
have left your first love. 5‘Therefore remember from where you have fallen,
and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and
will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent. 6‘Yet this you do
have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7‘He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to
eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’
• They had nevertheless left their first love—their original, single-minded, and
devoted love for the Lord Himself (Rev. 2:2-4).
• Although they lived in the midst of one of the most corrupt cities of the Roman
world, a center of pagan idolatry and of gross immorality, they faithfully
maintained right doctrine and pure moral standards.
• But their fatal flaw—one that seems small compared to their areas of great
faithfulness—was loss of love. The thrill was gone, enthusiasm was low and zeal
had flattened out into orthodox habit and tradition.
And it makes the fatal mistake that man can freely partake in sin because the Law of
God is no longer binding.
• The Apostle James refuted this error in James 2:19 with the admonition, "The
devils also believe, and tremble"; reminding us that true faith is an active principle
which works by love and it goes beyond a profession of belief. "But wilt thou know,
O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:20)
• The Bible teaches us that salvation is a free gift, based upon God's grace alone
(Ephesians 2:8-9) However, the very next verse tells us that "we are created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk
in them." (Ephesians 2:10)

True faith produces action, as well as a desire for holiness and obedience.
Titus 2:11 - 15 (NASB)
11
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously
and godly in the present age,
13
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and
Savior, Christ Jesus,
14
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for
Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught
13
by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.16...But we have the mind
of Christ.
