III. Instructional Procedure

TEACHERS ACTIVITY

PUPILS ACTIVITY

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Greetings
Everybody stand and let us pray.
Lea kindly lead the prayer.
Good morning class!

(The pupils will stand and pray)

Good morning Ms. Chavez
Good Morning visitors
Good Morning classmates
Good morning!

You may now take your seat.

2. Checking of Attendance
Class, who are absent today?
Very Good!

Maam nobody is absent today.

3. Song
Before we start our lesson let us
sing a song first.

(Pupils will sing a song)

4. Drill
Class, I will flash numbers which
you are going to solve and give its

quotient.
Answer:

5. Review
Let us have a review.
What was our lesson yesterday?

Our lesson yesterday was about dividing

a whole into parts.

Very good!
So lets see. I have here a
presentation of different shapes.
Read the direction first.
Direction: Cut the objects into its
indicated equal
parts.
1. Cut the heart into 2 equal parts.

2. Cut the triangle into 3 equal parts.

3. Cut the orange into 4 equal parts.

DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

1. Motivation
Who among you love to eat cakes?
When do you usually eat cakes?
Will you name some occasions
wherein you see
and taste delicious cakes?

In eating a cake, do you eat it as a

whole?
How do you eat cake?

(Pupils will raise their hands)

During special occasions.

Birthdays
Weddings
Christening
No Maam.
We sliced it into parts and then put it on

a plate.
Very good!
Do you share your food to your families
of friends?

Yes Maam.

2. Presentation
I have objects on the table.
What are these?

Cake, pizza pie, water melon,

knife/plastic knife, plates handkerchief

Nice!
Using the knife, I will cut the water
melon into 4 pieces, but before that I
want to remind all of you that this tool
is dangerous. Thats why we must be
careful in using it.
Look at the watermelon. How many
equal parts does it have?

The watermelon has 4 equal parts.

Very Good!
3. Discussion
If I will give one part to Jasmine.
How many are left?
Very Good!
Since Jasmine got one part of the
watermelon it will show in fraction as
1
4

Therefore all the four parts have the

fraction form 1
4
Thus: 4 is called the denominator,
or the total number of equal parts and
1 is the numerator as the shaded part.
Let us have the other objects.
Who wants to slice the cake into 6
equal parts?
Are these parts of the cake having
the same size?
How many equal parts do Renan
sliced the cake?
Very good! If I will separate the 1
part of the cake? How many equal
parts are left?

(Pupils will raised their hands)

Yes Maam.

Renan sliced the cake into 6 equal parts.

5 equal parts

Very good! How many parts are

taken?
How do we write it in fraction form?

Very good! Which part is the

numerator?
Which part is the denominator?
Will you draw 1 on the board using the
shape of
6
the cake?
Let us have other example.
Look at this pizza pie, into how many
parts does this pizza divided?
What do you call each part?

1 part

Maam, the pizza pie is divided into 2

equal parts.
Maam, each part is because the pizza
is divided into 2 equal parts.

Will you draw it on the board, Bea?

Very good!

4. Fixing Skills
Class, I will group you into four
groups, this is the group 1, group 2,
group 3 and the group 4. Each group will
have 5 members.
You will form your line here in
front. The first member of each group
will be the first one to answer the right
fraction of the picture that I am going to
show, and then you will write it on the
board, followed by the next member of
the group up the last member.

5. Generalization
How do we identify fractional
parts of a given whole?

Thats right! What do you call if 1

whole is divided into 3 parts?

Very good! How about if a whole is

We identify fractional parts of a given

whole by counting the total equal parts
as the denominator and the shaded part
or each part as the numerator.

Maam when a whole is divided into 3

equal parts. Each part is called 1 .
3

divided into 8 equal parts?

Maam when a whole is divided into 4

equal parts, each part is called 1.

Remember class, to identify

fractional parts of a given whole by
counting the total equal parts as the
denominator and the shaded part or
each part as a numerator.

6. Application
