It takes a child about 6 months to learn this part. Repetition makes them perfect
1) Teach only small alphabets phonetically (Do NOT Introduce Vowels here)
B --> bh
C --> has 2 sounds like K (cat) and S like in (City, Face) (Rule: every time the alphabet C is followed by
the vowel "i" or "e" it has the sound of "S")
D --> Dh
F --> Fh
G --> Has 2 sounds again Gh (Goat) and J like in (Gem, Magic) (Rule: every time the alphabet G is
followed by the vowel "i" or "e" it has the sound of "J")
H --> Hh
J --> J
K --> K
L --> lh
M --> mh
N --> nh
P --> ph
Q --> qu
R --> rr
S --> s
T --> t
V --> Vh
W --> Vh
X --> X
Y --> Has 2 sounds again "eh" (Fly) or "i" as in (Pony)
Z --> Zh
In this part make sure that the child can identify
1) Starting sound in each word (ex bat)
2) The ending sound in each word (ex cap)
3) The middle sound in each word (ex gate, ruler etc)
4) Can write the small alphabets comfortably and recognize them)
5) Knows the abc sequence
Phonics (Part 2)
It takes a child about 6 months to learn this part alone. Repetition makes them perfect
1) Introduce only short vowels (The rule is any word that has only 1 vowel is a short vowel)
A --> aa (Cat)
E --> eh (bed)
I --> ih (pig)
O --> oh (mop)
U --> uh (tub)
2) Introduce "Sight" words (words that cannot be read phonetically)
Example: the, to, go, put, my
Phonics (Part 3)
It takes a child about 6 months to learn this part alone. Repetition makes them perfect
1) Introduce blends all that you can think about with each alphabet that is not a vowel
Examples:
a) Bl (blow) , Br (brown)
b) Cl (click), CK (black) , ch (chip, watch), cr (crow)
c) Dr (drum)
d) Fl (Fly), Fr (fright), fry
e) Gr (great), gl (glow),
f) St (pest, stair), sc (scarf), sl (slide), sn (snap), sp (spade)
h) Th (that)
i ) Wh (what, whale)
j) rk (park)
h) sh (ship)
j) R blends "ar" (star) , "ir" (shirt), "er" (jerk), ur (turn)
k) ng (song)
l ) nd (hand)
m) kn (know)
n) wa (watch)
o) qu (queen)
p) Ph (phone)
q) ld (old)
r) lk (walk)
s) ght (light, sight)
t) ing (king)
The child should be able to recognize the this is any word that that they see and should read phonetically
Now introduce 4 - 5 letter words that have some blend in it, BUT ONLY 1 VOWEL
The blend can be in the beginning or in end of the word or in the middle
Introduce more sight and high frequency words (are, our, very, this, that, there, why, here, were, etc)
Make the child read books on blends now. Generally one book is based on 1 blend
Make the child read plural words ex "gate", "gates" ie Introduce words that end with "S"
6) DO NOT proceed to then next level till you are not satisfied.
Phonics (Part 4)
It takes a child more than 6 months to learn this part alone. Repetition makes them perfect
1) Introduce long vowels in the sequence shown below (The rule is any word that has more than 1
vowel, the first vowel is long (stretch it out) and the second vowel is a short vowel.
Long A -> there are 5 types

1) u - e words like cute
2) qu (quiet, quilt)
Long E -- There are 4 types
1) e --> he, me, she ( any word ending with "e" and no other vowel in it)
2) ee --> ex sleep, meet
3) ea --> "heat" this on the most confusing because there are exceptions like "heart" and you must explain
it with the "ar" blend in it.
4) "ew" --> new, knew
