CHAIR MESSAGETOM REIF

Why are you in the Lisle Area Chamber?

Too Get most out of your business?
Want to know an easy, affordable way to grow your
business? I will share a secret with you: The Chamber! Chambers of
Commerce can be a best friend to your small business.
Think about it: The whole purpose behind a Chamber of Commerce is to
help small businesses succeed. Over 85% of U.S. Chamber members are
small business owners. And what kind of businesses are you involved in?
This Chamber is a place committed to your success. Your Board of
Directors (Im so impressed with this group of people!) has been hard at
work. We want to be that group who takes on something unique and new
& isnt afraid to experiment with ways to improve our organization! To
that purpose, we have pulled together a member survey. You will be
receiving it soon, if you havent already. Take a few minutes. Answer
the questions! Be honest! We will all benefit from your answers.
Have you ever had someone ask you, Why should I join the Chamber?
You may already have a great answer, but lets consider some important
ways the Lisle Chamber can help you:

1. Programming: Most of our programming is intended to help you

Multi-Chamber Business After Hours grow your business. We bring in speakers, offer educational seminars,
create informational newsletters, host luncheons, spotlight successful

2. Networking: One issue many small business owners have is that

they are out there on their own, without a whole lot of support from anyone else. But if you get involved, that will change in two significant
ways.
First, you will suddenly be mixing with a host of like-minded people
small business owners who, like you, are juggling payroll, taxes, a tough
economy, and home life. There will be people to bounce ideas off of, and
ideas from others that can be applied to your business as well.
Second, we regularly have business-after-hours events and new member
ribbon cutting parties. These offer you the chance to meet and do
business with local businesses.

3. Lobbying: Legislation of all sorts on the state and national level have profound impacts on local businesses.
However, most small businesses have neither the time, resources, understanding, nor desire to lobby on a particular bill. Our Government Affairs Committee is on task meeting
regularly and staying on top of political issues that affect us.
According to the United States Chamber of Commerce, Were the loud voice you need to be heard in the political arena, to represent the important issues that affect small businesses. With your input, we can make a difference and provide tangible results.
4. Getting involved: We have a variety of committees that allow you to participate in this
Community on issues of importance to you. Make a difference and have your voice heard.
5. Discounts: Check out all the member-to-member discounts available to you right now! There are so many
deals and discounts! And, taking advantage of them supports and builds our business community.
So yes, joining the chamber of commerce is a very good idea. Even better, is being an active member!
Remember Lisle Ale Fest will be Saturday September 26th from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Prairie Walk Pond, Burlington Ave/Garfield Ave.
Hard to believe but the last Cruise Nights will be Saturday September 19th in Downton Lisle.
Together, I know we will WORK TOGETHER and grow the Chamber to new levels of success.

AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT - KETTISHA STAMP

Kettisha Stamp is Director of Student Services for Universal Technical Institute and is our
featured Ambassador. She has been with the Lisle Area Chamber since January 2012 and
has been an Ambassador since February 2014. At UTI, she is the liaison and advocate for
students to help them be successful. They strive to make students aware of and utilize all the
support services UTI offers. As Director of Student Services she leads strategic planning for
the campus to enhance the education experience that focuses on student success outcomes
and UTI objectives. Her goals are to help studentsbe successful and to change one life at a
time. Kettisha has been with UTI for the past 17 years. She has been the Director of the
Student Services Department since 2006.
She believes that the Chamber and its members have been a critical support service for UTI over the years. They
got involved in the Chamber before the campus relocated to Lisle and the transition was seamless. She stated that
working with community leaders involved in the Chamber has enriched the student experience. Additionally,
groups like the Chamber, DuPage Workforce Board, area non-profits and businesses in the region, add so much
to UTIs campus life and provide opportunities for their students. Kettisha said that being an Ambassador is a
way to give and let other businesses know what a tremendous resource the Chamber was for their business. From
networking to making lasting relationships in the community, being an involved Chamber member is a good
business decision.
Kettisha lives in Crystal Lake with her husband, Jeremy, her daughter Delilah Aurora and their three rescue dogs.
She volunteers with the Friends of the Crystal Lake Library and has been involved with the annual Book Sale,
Market Days, Culvers Nights, and other fundraisers that support the library and their goals. She enjoys being
involved in the community and making a difference when she can. Kettishas favorite quote by Ralph Marston is
Being positive in a negative situation is not naive. It is leadership.
