Water Project Expansion Taking Shape

On their recent trip to Africa in May, President Jane

Holler and Vice President/Treasurer Dan Marecki
met with Dr. Flavio Pasqualato, the managing director of Draco, Ltd., which is the Italian drilling
company Uganda Farmers has consistently used
for projects. Draco has been a longtime trusted
partner and their expertise in surveying, drilling,
and installing our water projects has been invaluable over the years.

Our project in Nganiko, Uganda has been quite a

success as it supplies the medical center and surrounding area with much needed clean water. The
borehole currently pumps one thousand liters of
water per hour, but Dr. Flavio calculated that the
well has a capacity twenty times greater than it is
currently pumping out.
After discovering the
Nganiko water project has so much more potential,
UFI officials decided it would be best to expand on
the project to assist the area even further.
Plans are currently underway to include four more
water taps, a new delivery system, a sixty thousand liter water tank, and a solar pump. When
completed, this expansion will provide the gift of

Fifth Annual Running for Water for Africa 5K Run/Walk

ganda Farmers, Inc. will be holding its fifth annual

Running for Water for Africa 5K Run/Walk fundraiser on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Walnut
Beach in Milford. Thanks to suggestions made by participants and volunteers of past races, UFI has chosen to
try a different location this year. Walnut Beach offers a
level course, compared to the more undulating Morningside neighborhood the course has run through in past
years, which will provide both runners and walkers with a
less intimidating, but still challenging and enjoyable,
workout. The course will also run through scenic Silver
Sands State Park, so race participants will be sure to enjoy the gorgeous, panoramic views of Long Island Sound
and Charles Island.

Help us Make this Our Best Year Yet

The Running for Water for Africa fundraiser is organized
by volunteers and is funded by donations. We are always
looking for new volunteers to assist us with everything
from giving out fliers, to working the registration tables, to
handing out water to and cheering on race participants on
the course. If you are interested in helping us prepare for
the race or assisting us on the day of, please let us know!
Volunteering with Uganda Farmers is not only a rewarding
way to give back to your local and global community, it can
also be a great way to earn community service hours for
high school and college students!

Timing Details

If you cant volunteer your time but would still like to help
out, monetary donations are always welcome. Even
though this event is held to raise funds, we still need funds
to put it on. Any amount helps and as always, is taxdeductible.

Registration will begin at 7:00 AM, which opens for participants who plan to register the day of the event. The race
will start promptly at 9:00, after a rendition of the Star
Spangled Banner and a send-off by a guest of honor.
Participants can expect refreshments at the end of the
race, along with an awards ceremony beginning at 10:00,
followed by a raffle for prizes from local businesses.

We are also greatly in need of sponsors for the event.

Being a sponsor is a great way to advertise your business.
Sponsors who donate $200 or more will have their name/
company name on the back of our race t-shirts, other promotional materials, and on our website.

How to Register
Participants should pre-register online by visiting
www.hitekracing.com. A link will also be provided on our
website at www.ugandafarmersinc.org. Pre-registering will
guarantee you a t-shirt as well as save you time and money the day of the race. We strongly encourage all participants to pre-register as it will help us immensely with

Bunnell Students Make Big Splash with

Water for Africa

School in Stratford, Connecticut
have made quite an impact on the
lives of Ugandans. The students of Bunnell High Schools Future Educators Club,
under the direction of faculty advisor
Michele Croteau, presented the 501(c)(3)
nonprofit Uganda Farmers, Inc. with a
check for $1,100.00. The donation will
help to expand UFIs most recent water
project in the remote Western Ugandan
village of Nganiko.
Prior to the drilling of a bore hole and the
installation of a water delivery system,
clean, potable water was a scarcity in the
area of Nganiko. Now the completed project services a medical center and about
two thousand villagers with natures most
precious gift.

enthusiasm. With the support of the school
administration, the project rapidly took
shape. After kicking off the project with a
slide show and assembly, Water for Africa,
the cups went on sale to students, teachers,
friends, and families.
The result was not only a valuable financial
contribution, but also a developing and continuing awareness of the importance of
service to others.

to Aid Orphanage
Under the pastorship of the Rev. Dr. Calvin E. Robinson, Jr.,
First Baptist Church donated its time, money and talents to
help the Iganga Babies Home in Uganda at a most critical juncture.
The Missionaries of First Baptist, under the direction of Chairperson Mrs. Carolyn Brangman, invited Ugandan native Godfrey Musabe to speak at the church earlier this year. Musabe
spoke of the orphanage's dire need for food, clothing and supplies because their source of funding had been drastically reduced. The Missionaries collected sizable financial donations
which were used to bolster the supplies of baby formula, food,
and medicines necessary for the care of the children ages birth
to five years.
The Clothes Closet of First Baptist donated childrens clothing
and church member Gail Fisher-Brown organized a clothing
collection. She presented a small mountain of purchased and
donated clothing to UFI officers Jane Holler and Dan Marecki,
who delivered two large duffel bags to the orphanage on their
visit to Uganda earlier this summer.
What a delight it was to witness the excitement and appreciation on those small, joyous faces and the anticipation in those
tiny, eager hands as they dragged in the bags and examined
the treasures inside! said Dan Marecki.
Thank you First Baptist Church for opening your hearts and for
sending your love across the earth! This gesture brought
immense happiness to kids who need to know that others care.

Lemonade Stand Helps Raise

Money for Water Projects
Young Milford residents, Mia Powers, age 13,
and Kyle Holler, age 10, recently volunteered
their time to help raise money for water projects
in Uganda. While on vacation with their family,
instead of spending time splashing in the waves
and soaking up the sun at the beach like most
kids, Mia and Kyle took it upon themselves to
open a lemonade stand at a busy bus stop and
ferry terminal. They planned the entire event, as
well as made the signs and purchased all of the
materials needed for their venture.
The young entrepreneurs set up shop at the bus
stop and worked hard in the hot sun to quench
the thirst of tourists and locals alike. They sold
lemonade last year as well, but this year they
more than doubled their profit, all of which they
generously donated to Uganda Farmers, Inc.
Thank you, Mia and Kyle, for helping make a difference in Uganda!
