This document provides an overview of key concepts related to data warehousing including: - A data warehouse is a central repository of integrated data from one or more sources used for reporting and analysis to support knowledge workers and decision making. It stores current and historical data. - Data is uploaded from operational systems like marketing and sales into the data warehouse, potentially passing through an operational data store first. - The data warehouse is used for high-level analysis, predictions, time series analysis, financial analysis, and what-if simulations to support better decision making. - The document lists common data warehousing concepts, technologies, components, architectures, and questions frequently asked in data warehouse interviews.

DATA WAREHOUSE
In computing, a data warehouse (DW or DWH), also known as an enterprise data
warehouse (EDW), is a system used for reportingand data analysis. DWs are central repositories
of integrated data from one or more disparate sources. They store current and historical data and are
used for creating analytical reports for knowledge workers throughout the enterprise. Examples of
reports could range from annual and quarterly comparisons and trends to detailed daily sales
analyses.
The data stored in the warehouse is uploaded from the operational systems (such as marketing,
sales, etc., shown in the figure to the right). The data may pass through an operational data store for
additional operations before it is used in the DW for reporting.
