INTRODUCTION
The Jacobs Electronics Energy Pak is the most powerful and reliable ignition system available for street or race use. The
digitally controlled, capacitive discharge Energy Pak features:

User-adjustable top end rev limiter.

Full throttle mode to activate increased spark output when desired
Acceleration spark mode increases spark output during acceleration
Full Encapsulation for vibration and moisture resistance.
Recommended for all street, high performance, and off-highway motor sport applications.

SPECIFICATIONS
10,000 RPM (8 cylinder, 20,000 RPM 4 cylinder) with no high-end drop-off makes this the strongest, best
bang-for-the-buck system ever offered. With over 500 volts driving the coil and using a state-of-the-art microcontroller the
Pro-Street can digitally deliver a high-energy multiple-spark output across 22.5 degrees of crankshaft rotation (up to 7
sparks per combustion event.).
Easier starting, stronger pulling, lower Ets, smoother idle, reduced plug fouling, and a crisper throttle response are all
benefits of the increased ignition capability. The Pro-Street will operate across a voltage range of 7.5 to 16 volts making it
ideal for competition vehicles without charging systems to ensure maximum performance during long events.
The Energy Pak can be connected to magnetic pick-up triggers (either crank sensor or distributor type) using the inline
connector. For most passenger cars and trucks we also offer a complete line of optional direct plug-in harness adapters to
make installation as simple as plug and play! By utilizing direct plug-in connections no cutting or splicing of the stock
harness is necessary and the weather-proof integrity of the harness is not compromised. See the chart below for details,
and then contact your local Jacobs dealer for availability.
ADAPTER HARNESS APPLICATIONS CHART

380468
the need to remove the OEM coil. Note: Also used in applications where removing the OEM coil would trigger a Check Engine light.

COIL COMPATIBILITIES
The Energy Pak can be operated with most CD compatible coils. Do not use with stock/OEM coils.

02

WIRE FUNCTIONS
The Energy Pak can be installed by following the basic connection table below. However, optional direct plug-in harness
adapters are available for most popular vehicles that make installation easier. The following diagrams illustrate the various
direct plug-in harness adapters, their basic applications, and part numbers.

Heavy Twisted
Red & Black

There are 2 heavy gauge wires (12 gauge that are RED and BLACK in color) and are responsible
for getting direct battery voltage to the ignition. Be sure and connect these directly to the battery
for optimum reliability. (Red to Battery + Black to Battery -).

Red (Smaller Gauge)

Connects to a switched 12 volt source, such as the ignition key or switch.

NOTE: Must be positive while cranking.

Green

This wire is used to connect to the points, electronic ignition amplifier output or to the Yellow wire
of a Timing Accessory. When this wire is used, the Magnetic Pickup connector is not used.
Connects to the negative (-) terminal of the coil. This is the only wire that makes electrical contact
with the negative coil terminal. WARNING: Do not attach to Stock OEM Coil.

Black (Smaller Gauge)

White
Orange & Purple
Brown
Red and Black
in Black Cable

Connects to the positive (+) terminal of the coil. This is the only wire that makes electrical contact
with the positive coil terminal. WARNING: Do not attach to Stock OEM Coil.
These wires are routed together in one harness to form the Magnetic Pickup connector. It will
connect to factory pickups or other aftermarket pickups. The Orange wire is positive (+) and the
Purple is negative (-). When these wires are used, the Green wire is not used. NOTE: the
magnetic pickup cannot be used with vehicles equipped with factory fuel injection!
This wire is used to trigger an aftermarket tachometer. This wire provides 12 volt square wave
signal. When this wire is not used, tape it off to prevent accidental grounding.
These wires are for the full throttle activation switch. By connecting these two wires together using
optional Jacobs accessories, the Pro-Street switches to full throttle mode (525V-550V out).

NOTE: If welding on the vehicle, remove the fuses from the twisted RED & BLACK power wires, and disconnect both the
Green points in wire and the Brown tach output wire to prevent damage to the unit.

CONNECTIONS FOR STANDARD INSTALLATION (WITHOUT OPTIONAL VEHICLE-SPECIFIC HARNESSES)

CONNECTIONS FOR IMPORTS WITH INTERNAL COIL (USING OPTIONAL 390800 DISTRIBUTOR CAP MOD. KIT)

CONNECTIONS USING A MODIFIED DISTRIBUTOR CAP (NON GM HEI)

This type of connection for the Energy Pak is designed for use on import vehicles originally equipped with an internal coil
type distributor. On theses vehicles the coil is located inside the distributor. When using an external coil such as the Ultra
Coil, special steps must be taken to connect the output of the coil to the distributor.
The first step is to remove the factory distributor cap and modify it according to the directions supplied with the 390800
Cap Modification Kit. Note, you may need to drill a hole in the side of the distributor cap to run the wires switched 12 volt
and points or ignition module wires out.
Secondly, disconnect the primary (low voltage) wires from the OEM coil and remove the coil from the vehicle.
Next, connect the wires that previously attached to the OEM coil to the barrier strip as shown in the above illustration.
Finally, put the distributor cap back on the vehicle.
NOTE: YOU WERE EITHER SOLD A CAP MODIFICATION KIT WITH YOUR SYSTEM, OR YOU MUST PURCHASE A
CAP MODIFICATION KIT, PART # 390800 FROM YOUR DEALER.

REV LIMITER
The Energy Pak is equipped with a smooth acting, precision, sequential rev limiter. It is adjustable using easy-to-set rotary
switches in 100 RPM increments. The ProStreets limiter provides a smooth and accurate rev limit by dropping spark to
individual cylinders and is one of the most accurate on the market.
The Energy Pak is shipped with the Rev Limit turned off (both rotary switches turned to 0.) The left-most rotary switch
(closest to the large wire hole) represents the Rev-limit 1000ths place while the right-most switch (closest to the smaller
wire hole) represent the 100ths place. To set the rev limit to 7500 RPM the 1000ths place switch should be set to 7 and
the 100ths place switch should be set to 5 (see Rev Limit Selection Diagram, Page 8.) To adjust the rev limit simply use a
small flat-bladed screw driver to turn the rotary switches to the desired setting.

07

CYLINDER SELECTION
The Energy Paks rev limiter is pre-programmed for operation on an 8 (eight) cylinder engine. If you are installing the
ProStreet on a 6 (six) cylinder even fire or a 4 (four) cylinder application, you will need to cut one or both of the Black with
White tracer wire loops (respectively) located on the end plate of the Energy Pak (See Diagram below).
4 (FOUR) CYLINDER APPLICATIONS: You must cut both loops in half to correctly operate the Energy Pak on a 4 (four)
cylinder application.
6 (SIX) CYLINDER APPLICATIONS: You must cut 1 (one, either loop) in half in order to correctly operate the Energy Pak
on a 6 (six) cylinder application.
NOTE: TAPE OFF THE CUT ENDS AND BEND AWAY FROM EACH OTHER SO THAT THEY WILL NOT COME IN
CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER OR BE ALLOWED TO CONTACT GROUND.

FULL-THROTTLE SWITCH
The ProStreet has an increased spark output mode which can be activated by an external switch. This full-throttle mode is
activated when the two full-throttle wires (the small red and black wires in the black cable ending in female bullet connectors)
are shorted together. This full throttle mode can be activated for up to 180 seconds as long as the full-throttle input wires are
shorted together. Activating the full throttle mode for more than 180 seconds may cause ignition overheating and premature
failure.
Note: The increased spark output mode is automatically enabled when the system detects the vehicle accelerating.
