the requisite motions are obtained. [16]

3. (a) Differentiate between up milling and down milling. Explain their application
mentioning the most commonly used method.

7. (a) Define and explain the broaching operation.


(b) A hole in 30 mm thick casting is 20 mm in diameter and is to have a 4.5
mm deep, 3 mm wide keyway broached in it. The average amount of material
removed by each tooth is 0.075 mm. If the pitch of broach tooth is 12 mm,
how long will be cutting portion of the broach have to be? How long will
it take to broach 1000 parts if the broaching speed is 10 mpm. The total
time allowed for return stroke, handling each part and placing the broach in
position for the cut is 1.5 minutes. [10+6]

8. (a) Why the natural abrasives are not suitable for making grinding wheels?
