Job Description for system engineer

The Systems Engineer will work as Level 1 engineer, provide information and support within the MModal team.
Works closely with the other areas of MMODAL team to ensure systems integration is achieved during the product
pre-release life cycles.
Core Duties:

Pro-actively monitor MModal 's data center environment using MModal 's existing management tools
Collect and review system logs.
Receive alerts from MMODAL 's management tools
Verify the existence of problems when discovered
Escalate problems to MModal IT personnel
Perform scheduled server reboots for selected systems
Perform Security updates and patches in consent with MMODAL IT team
Provide these services 24x7x365

MMODAL Operations includes:

First Level fault analysis and alerting IT staff to faults.

Continual performance and availability monitoring of Network, Servers, Database and applications within
defined Service Level Parameters.

Identify Network / System problems as they occur, assess the consequences of the event and identify affected
users and devices.

Reduce the impact of Network / System outages by ensuring co-ordination between the various technical
groups involved

Reduce the length of outages or restoration time by ensuring that the necessary information reaches the
individuals or groups who are primarily involved.

Follow the set guidelines, process, procedures and work instructions to ensure the integrity and security of the
system there by adhering to change management.

Identify, diagnose, test and resolve Network and Server performance problems in a multi-platform
environment.

Design, implement and undertake testing plans for the introduction of new platforms and systems.

Undertake customer requested moves and changes to existing platforms.

Achieve greater System and Network uptime and increase user satisfaction

Log files analysis/error checking.

Greater operations control to support the business.

More efficient use of IT Infrastructure department staff.

Coordinating Security Activities by responding to security incidents

Identify and rectify problems before they occur.

Provide efficient management of server resources.

Provide inputs towards building processes for effective utilization of the deployed infrastructure.

Implement small projects that improve NOC Operations efficiency and effectiveness.

The analysis of monitoring statistics, the writing of the interpretive part of reports, and any follow-up actions
associated with poor performance.

Real time, baseline and trend statistics, along with comprehensive reporting, including web-based, ad hoc
report creation.

Maintain currency with new development and technologies. Read journals and other publications. Attend
trade expositions.

Perform system recovery, backups and file retrievals for the servers. Provide detailed reports.

Write departmental operation guides.

Interface with the emergency operations planning and media relations groups during major events.

Escalate any out-of-control events to the appropriate group or individuals.

Willingness to travel as per the job requirement

Undertake various other tasks on an occasional basis at the request of the manager and to a level
commensurate with training, knowledge, grade and skills.

Will be part of the Global NOC team 24/7

Co-ordination with 3rd party relationships as well as 24x7 hands-on support for operational activities relating to the
creation and propagation of MMODAL products. Working closely with counterparts in US, you will ensure that local
operations comply with global standards and will represent local operational requirements in the ongoing definition of
global standards.

Qualification
Diploma in Computer science or Equivalent Degree.
Experience
3-4 years in system administration in Windows and Linux. Working on Nagios is an added advantage
