FLAME TEST ALL:

Green: If blue, proceed to blue tests

If colorless/yellow/orange, add H2SO4: If precipitate forms, Ba2+

If not, add NaOH. If NH3 smell, NH4+

It might be Zn2+

Violet: If pink, proceed to pink test

If colorless/y/o, K+

Red: If colorless/y/o, add H2SO4: If precipitate forms, Sr2+

Yellow: If yellow, proceed to yellow tests

If colorless/orange, Na+

If none, proceed to colorless/y/o tests (if orange flame, it might be Ca2+)

If it is green: proceed to confirmatory test for Ni2+

If it is blue: do the green test and confirmatory test for Cu2+

If it is pink: proceed to confirmatory test for Mn2+

If it is yellow: if yellow flame, proceed to confirmatory test for Fe3+

If not, proceed to confirmatory test for CrO42-

If it is orange: proceed to confirmatory test for Cr2O72-

If it is colorless:

Add thioacetamide (CH3CSNH2): If black, Ag+ , proceed to its confirmatory

If white, Zn2+

If NR, add (NH4)2S: If white, proceed to confirmatory test for Al3+

If NR, proceed to confirmatory tests of Ca2+ and Mg2+

If Na+/K+/NH4+ flame, do the Venn diagram:
