LIBERIA - WHITE
COLLAR HONORS
directly exposed to the virus are the ones receiving all the
accolades while gallant nurses and other health workers
sit and watch.
THE SITUATION IS SIMILAR to the tale of a Dump truck
transporting materials to construct a mansion which it can
never enter after completion because of its big size when
other smaller vehicles can make their way through.
IN ALL OF THESE MANY HONORS, no nurse, hygienist or
clinician has been mentioned.
NURSES, HYGIENISTS, clinicians who physically catered
for Ebola patients and were directly exposed to the
deadly Ebola virus are the real heroes and despite several
programs awarding individuals and leaving them out, they
will go down in history as the real heroes and heroines.
OTHER INSTITUTIONS and organizations also played lead
role in the Ebola fight but they are also normally left out of
these awards.
We believe many of these awards are given to white collar
individuals some of whom never really came close to an
Ebola patient. While their contributions in galvanizing
resources and arranging many activities are laudable, the
frontline soldiers deserve recognition too.

LEGISLATIVE DEBATE
At a joint public hearing held
Friday by the Joint Security
Committee of the House
of
Representatives
and
Senate Saint Jerome Larbele
Deputy Defense Minister for
Operations told committee
members at the hearing that
the Defense Ministry is not
in support of any law that
will put arms in non-security
personnel hands.
Liberia as a country just
returning from a brutal civil
conflict with the bulk of its
population made up of young
people
still
traumatized.
Making a law that will give
them the right and opportunity
to go into a store and buy a
gun could lead to risk, said
Larbele.
The law also calls for all
arms seized by immigration,
customs, and coast guards or
other government entities to
be immediately turned over
to the National Police within
24 hours of seizure and that
the Police shall keep record of
every small arm, light weapon,
ammunition, or other related
materials seized or confiscated.
Discussions on the Act led
by joint Security Committee
chaired by Senator Steve
Zaro
(LP-Lofa
County)
and Representative Bhofal
Chambers
(CDC-District#2
Maryland

lasted
for over an hour with

chaired by Mr. James Flomayan

and others from UNMIL,

Ministry.
and development of every nation
squarely rests on quality roads
to support government socioeconomic deliverables.
She said Westwood will
continue to contribute to road
rehabilitation and construction
in Liberia given the availability
of modern equipment, engineers
and contractors employed by the
company.
At the same time, Public
Works Deputy Minister for
Administration,
Roland
Giddings, has underscored the
need for road sustainability
across Liberia.
Mr. Giddings pointed out that
most of the roads are being
rehabilitated every year due to
the lack of proper maintenance.
He said if the countrys road

government and its development
